Root Rooting on Ting

Has anyone on ting rooted this phone?
Curious if I need specific files or if the regular sprint ones would work, have never rooted a phone before.

nope..it's just a sprint phone. All of the stuff that makes it a ting phone is not changed via anything I've done to it. I've root'd, rom'd, cwm'd and stock'd mine many times. one caveat, on shevron's rom, for some reason the roaming menu is not there and you can get stuck if you set the roaming preferences from the roaming message in the notification bar. i had to buy roam control to be able to bring the menu up to reset the roaming. other than that, no issues.

LOVE TING!

So many different posts with different information for this, I'm not sure where to start, seems all the most straight forward posts are for Boost :/

depends on the version on your phone. The OCR doesn't work on 2.3.6 i think. The other way is to use odin to flash CWM and then flash the tu_root.zip

Ok... having issues.. yes I'm a noob at rooting.
Read the root & unroot for devs & power users as well as having read the clockwork recovery mod thread.....

I have odin up, the phone is in download mode, have put the ops file in the ops box, but what do I put in the one package window? the CWM package? the tu_root_ package?

You should have cwm recovery first then tu_root.

Here is a step by step including video on how to root 2.3.6.

I take NO credit for these instructions. Only able to pass on the helpful links.

If this helped in any way, don't forget the thanks button.

I have already watched that video... it stops at cwm on the phone, which isn't the same as rooting (from what I understand) that thread also links a file for boost, which I don't think would be good for my phone.

Sorry for the noob questions, I just don't want to f&*k this up and screw my phone.

So... There is a thread over on the ting website about rooting this phone using odin 4.43 and taking the phone back to android 2.3.4, rooting it, protecting root with voodoo, then doing the ota update to 2.3.6 and reapplying the root.

It seems to contradict what I have read here (using odin 4.42)
The guy put the files up he used to do it RootSPH-930.zip but there has been that baseband update to fg11 since he did so I don't even know if this works anymore, and it seems like a really round about way of doing it.

I tried some stuff earlier in the week after being walked through the whole cwm process by dmcjr22 (Thanks for that) but I'm a noob here and it seemed like my phone wouldn't take any of the roms I tried to flash. I didn't try the boost stuff because I don't know what that would do to a sprint phone.

I'm not even looking for anything fancy here, all I really want it superuser so I can remove some of this stupid bloatware that keeps asking me to update it.

Oh hang on, think I got it....

It said rooted after I did it, had to go install superuser. Just gotta see if i can remove the crap now
