I was on revoked's faq page and I couldnt fine the answer to this question. Does anyone know if one needs to overwrite the recovery flash in order to get root? What if I don't want to flash new roms but I would like to remove the extras that are put on my phone

If you use the new 3.21 Unrevoked it will give you root, a new recovery and S-OFF so you don't have to do anything extra.

You can then either flash ROM's or just do your removal of extras.

I know, but from what I was reading it will overwrite the system recovery mechanism for the phone. And I would prefer not to do this. So I didn't know if I had to do that part or if I could just run that to get root :-)

You need it all. The recovery is how you get to be root when you connect to the phone.
