just watched a video on that. will get one ready. but do i now have the software i need?

Not the best person to say definitively as I haven't unrooted any of my phones but, it should be everything you need. Just make sure before you flash any custom rom that you take a backup and keep it safe until you're sure you don't need to rollback.

Chances are that Samsung won't update the SGS2 beyond ICS anyway so, you'll likely get more updates of developers.
