Rooting question

I've been thinking of rooting my phone so I can get more apps over to the SD... I've been reading up on rooting, and I basically have 2 questions....

So I don't have to deal with a custom ROM, is there a utility or something that I can back up all my stuff, and then if I have to unroot my phone, I can just have the stuff reinstalled?

When an update comes out, whether it's Android 2.3 or something from Sprint, what happens to my phone? Can it just brick up? Or does the update unroot it? How does that work?

Thanks

Don't quote me here -- but I believe Titanium Backup is the app you want once you root, so you can back up your apps and their data.

As for the OTA update -- it *should* just unroot your phone. It did on my wife's Fascinate and on my DX. Then you'll just have to re-root if you so desire.

Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken!

Good luck.

But do you have to re-root your phone to get the backup restored?

When your wife's phone unrooted, did she still have all of her stuff?

Thanks!

Titanium would not work for me after mine was unrooted.
I did use Backup Everything and does not require root, AND the thing I did lke was when you restore it, it unzips all your .apk's to a temp folder then asks u one by one to reinstall said prgrm or cancel. It my say fail first time but second is a go every time. In the end you also have all the .apk files for your pleasure to reinstall at will and not have to go to the Frickin Market everytime. :) :)

lol it even backs its own apk up.
