Rooting Question

Is it worth it to root my phone? I've heard that it increases battery performance. This is the only reason I'd ever consider rooting. Is it true, though?

Also, is there a website that guides you how to root?

rooting has many advantages. yes it is worth it. and just look in the directory for your specific phone and they should have all the answers in that section.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes it is worth it. i think this thread sums it up pretty nicely:http://androidforums.com/faqs/443432-what-root-being-rooted-mean.html.

and like cwhatever said you can just go to the forum for your phone and go to it's rooting subforum. at the top of the forum will be a sticky on rooting with guides and other valuable info.

post any questions you have specifically about the rooting process in the forum there.

Rooting doesn't give you extra battery. It's just there's things you can do once rooted to optimize your phones performance that you couldn't do before. Out of the box they're set pretty conservatively.

Just google "root HTC desire" or whatever your phone is, probably return you to this forum lol

There's a thing called Set vsel which let's you adjust clock & power settings, some custom roms have this built in. After you've rooted you can search for "set vsel settings < your phone >. You might find it here or another forum. You'd either need to download this app (requires root) or install a custom rom that has it (like cyanogenmod).

Read up on what most people are using to get a safe 'ball park' figure that won't harm your phone.

well kernels do help out with both battery and performance. my phone as it is a rooted evo 3d (soon to be evo lte) can last for more then 24hrs with a moderate amount of usage. so i will say that by rooting your phone you can indeed have better battery life. maybe not an extra battery but battery life......yes:p:D

I think !on's point was that just rooting by itself doesn't achieve this - it just gives you the option of applying other changes that do help.

Welcome to the forums, TheInnovation!
Looks like you have a Galaxy Nexus. You can head on over to this forum:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus - Android Forums
Check out the subforums at the top of the page for which version you have. There are stickies at that top which will guide you through rooting.
The Gnex is a snap to root and with the amount of development for it gives you a lot of advantages. Be sure to check out ocnbrze's thread he linked for more info on rooting.
