Help Rooting Question

Those are custom recoveries, not rooting tools, so that's not quite the right question.

If somebody has built a custom recovery for your device and you install it on the device, you can then use it to flash a superuser package and root the device, or alternatively flash a pre-rooted custom ROM. If available I would recommend this way of rooting because you can also use the recovery to back up the rom before rooting it (a nandroid backup), which means that if anything goes wrong you can easily restore it.

But you have to be able to install the recovery first. Usually this involves unlocking the bootloader (which typically wipes the device, so back up first). I'm not familiar with the techniques and tools for Samsung devices.

A VERY important warning: only install a recovery that was built for your specific device model. Not "for a similar device" or "for a Samsung" but for that specific model. A recovery built for a different device could mess things up very badly indeed.

Thanks for the info..so to get the rooting process started the first thing I would need to do is install a custom recovery?

The method(s) to root a device vary not only between devices, but oftentimes differ between Android versions for the same device.

The most straightforward path would be to find a detailed root thread for your device that has experienced users that can help answer questions you might have. Reading and researching all of the steps involved ahead of time to understand the steps (and pitfalls) are important and highly encouraged.

I would also encourage you to carefully read/reference Hadron's and make sure you make a Nandroid backup as the first step you take after getting your custom recovery installed.

Also, be aware that rooting and installing a custom recovery does indeed change your device and you need to be prepared for any adverse consequences that may occur as a result of your rooting activities.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the tips. Rooting sound so scary, ha ha.

Click on your profile name (or your avatar). That will take you to your Profile page. There should be a "Postings" tab. You can scroll all the way to the bottom to see the "Find all content by SunMad30" and "Find all threads by SunMad30" (which I've just replicated for you in that text).

Cheers!
