Root Rooting Questions - Branded Phone.

I have an Australian HTC Desire HD through Vodafone, and as I am aware my phone is branded. The software number is 1.32.178.5 and I have a Vodafone splash screen when I turn the phone on and a couple of pre-installed apps from Vodafone.

My questions are: If I rooted my DHD would I be able to load a ROM onto it that makes my phone an unbranded one? And will it receive updates the same time as phones that weren't originally branded? And will Vodafone in anyway be able to find out about me rooting the phone apart from me sending it in to them? And will it make my phone lag, use up more battery or in any way act differently to a new unbranded DHD?

Sorry if some of my questions seem simple and/or stupid, I'm not too knowledgeable on rooting and such.

You can root your phone and unbrand using a stock HTC ROM. Doing this will make you receive updates alot sooner then waiting from your carrier to add thier bloatware and then release the update.

The carrier will have no idea that your phone is debranded.. yea, unless you send it back in that state.

Follow this guide on xda. It takes a bit of guts but is pretty simple. I managed to debrand my DHD using so really, any idiot can =)
