Root Rooting questions

Im looking to root my evo with these instructions

{tutorial} how to root \0/ - xda-developers

but i am a little confused. i can get the file onto the sd card but then it says to plug the phone in and run

adb shell mv /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip /sdcard/root-PC36IMG.zip




is this a linux command? are you capable of rooting a phone with only a windows 7 based machine
 
I just did it this way with a windows 7 machine (32). I did not have any problems.

"adb shell mv /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip /sdcard/root-PC36IMG.zip"
This is a command that you type into the cmd(dos) screen
 
ok well, i started root process of rooting with toast's... i put the file on the sd card. i go into boot loader. it started to load and check the zip. then it just goes back to the main bootloader screen.
 
after rooting with toast i get a data call error 79 pcs vision username/password incorrect when i turn on the phone
 
trying to root my evo got the file on the sd card, the boot loader screen comeds up but I haven't seen the blue progress bar or anything!!! Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on or what I should do????
