Root Rooting T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH T999L doesn't work

I wasn't sure when I said you might be prompted to "keep modified recovery and root ". Should have noted that when I did my test run.

When you use Odin and the process finishes, you have to wait till the window above the connection window turns green and "Pass" appears before you unplug cable and pull battery.

The reason I suggested to download file from CF site is always best to get file directly from source if possible. Less chance of dirty/corrupt file that way.

Keeping my fingers crossed and check back in when possible.

I left the cable connected well after ODIN said PASS.

The CRC codes on the files are the same.

What is the name of the CF file for your machine?
O wanna look at it and compare.

The DETAILS I see while running ODIN tell me this should have worked.
When I do it again I will write down all these details for analsys.

I like my new AVITAR.

Later today.

I keep uploading it but when I come back
it is not there. There is an UPLOAD A FILE
option but the upload apparently isn't
part of the thread.

I could just paste it into the post but thay
could be crude.

Instructions please.

The mount sys fail and cash fail could be issue. Don't remember seeing anything like it when I did mine. I watched pc screen more than phone screen.

I've been wondering if with all the flashing you have done with different root methods and trying to get custom recovery installed that the phone may be a little gimped up. I know it will be a pain to set back up but doing a "factory reset" might resolve some issues and then try procedure again.

I think you got it correct, reason it should work. Hope we haven't been beating a dead horse and Nf4 not rootable.

If not rootable then I have lost nothing.

I reset device and I am just back where
I was.

I dropped T-Mobile because no matter
what they say they do not provide
roaming data. I verified this with
T-Mobile tech support.

So I have this phone with a bunch of
T-Mobile SW on it.

ATT will accept this phone but I want
to be rid of the T-Mobile SW load first.

So here I am.

I GOOGLED about ROOTANDROID.COM.
Here are some of the results:

scam
do it yourself
worked fine
extremely satisfied
very happy
costs money / I already know that /

They are all over the spectrum.

None of the hits that said SCAM gave a reason why.

I would try Kingo first. Posted link above in post 102. Download free software and install on pc. Select USB debugging on phone and connect to pc. If program makes connection to phone you will be prompted to Root. Could take several tries. Once rooting begins, don't touch phone till process complete. It installs its own Superuser but there are ways to remove and replace with one of your choice if you get that far.

KINGO didn't work either.

It got to the point where it said
FLASHING CUSTOM RECOVERY USING ODIN
The counter got to 58% where it stopped incrementing.
I waited 90 minutes but no luck.

Instead of your model number being T999l it should be t666. Pure evil. Sorry nothing worked and I'm out of ideas. I've used Kingo on atleast 6 phones, the last being Samsung Rugby Pro and never got a message like that. Usually get root failed if unrootable.

rootandroid.com is an excellent service.

The guy there spent 3 hours trying to overcome
each and every one of the problems we encountered
here.

HE GAVE UP.

I bought this phone at Target 16 months ago.
I will see if they will exchange it.
Not holding breath.

You don't wanna know what Target said.

There is an OH1 August 2015 update I don't have.
Is there any hope that might help?

NF4 fails.

The previous to NF4 is NC1. Would it be possible to
revert to this?`NC1 is reported to be ROOTABLE.

I am going to install OH1. This will be a FORWARD
upgrade which should be possible.

SB

Installed the OH1 update using KIES.

Installed properly.

I ran the procedure again.

This time I cannot boot into any version
of recovery RECOVERY either by pulling
the battery OR a normal POWER OFF.

It always says CF AUTO ROOT and
CHAINFIRE and the MOUNTING
error messages every time I try.

If I boot NORMALLY the phone is fine.

Probably I can uses KIES to get
back to where I was if KIES will
let me reload the same version
that is already there.

Found out that my nephew has one he nolonger uses. Should have it by next weekend if he mails it Monday. I'll upgrade it to nf4 if not there yet and throw everything I have at it. Love a challenge.

OH1 is now the latest.

Plan B ...

Find out model number of Galaxy S-III LTE ATT
an exact model number, that is known to ROOT
and takes a ROM update.

Or another device that works on ATT with good
nationwide coverage and is recommended by
membership.

ATT must support as BYOD.

Compariable prices.

Buy one on EBAY.

Sell this one on EBAY.

== Even swap.
