rooting the easy way

I was looking for z4root and it seems it has come off the market. I can not find it. Can any one confirm?

That's because it's not in the Market anymore. It never worked when I did it. So now I have the Superuser icon (that I can't get rid of) and everything I try to use that needs root says "I'm sorry you need to root first". :P

So it looks like this option for rooting is not working?? I am still trying to decide whether or not to root. I like the idea of getting rid of Sprint stuff so that I can free up some more space on the phone. I am constantly running into the "you are running low on space" (or whatever it says) message.

I am worried about messing up the phone though. If you root, can you unroot? If an update comes out, can you update?

I don't know if the risks outweigh the benefits since I am already getting wifi tethering without rooting.

You can still download the APK using the link over at XDA. However, to my understanding, if you root and then update, you will in all likelihood, lose root. Most of the updates include patches that take this access away... until another dev gets root again.

With Sprint ID, I found you can delete some of the Sprint apps like NFL using "manage applications" in settings. That should help free up some space. Using this as well, you can find the apps that you can move to SD. Rooting will give you the capability to move all of your apps to SD if you wish. (correct me if I'm wrong.)

You can but you don't want to. Some Apps do weird things when you do that. Facebook will ask you to sign in everytime you reboot or power cycle the phone.

Fwiw I did not lose root when I updated.

I don't know what the recent software version is. I just know I have 2.2. All the Optimuses do.
They come with 2.2, but my wife just got an OTA update to 2.2.1 which I think is weird because my Evo doesnt even have that,or maybe Sprint did send the update for the Evo and I didnt know about it because Im rooted.

I still can't find a compelling reason to root. I use launcher pro, so I don't have to ever see the ID button. I don't care if there are a few extra apps floating around, either. (and launcher pro lets me hide them) The only other reason I would appreciate it is to remove ads from some apps. Hardly worth the effort to me...

There may be no compelling to root, but frankly, as easy as it is, there is no reason not too. A note though, deleting those Sprint applications means when an update comes in, the update will not work unless you revert back to the ROM it is suppose to update.

I rooted my son's Optimus S today and it was a breeze. The Z4root release I used: 1.3.0 and it has BusyBox incorporated with it. Less than 1 minute to root it permanently. All of the applications I am running on my rutted Evo are working the same on the S.

Ok so I DLed the Z4root and I was wondering how do you know if your phone is rooted or not??

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out.

Do you have to kep the z4 app on the phone once you have rooted. That app is like 22mb and it's taking a lot of space.

Will this give me a boost in performance for my phone? I was reading online about rooting and then using voodoo lagfix to improve benchmark.

I just tried using quadrant benchmark and it gave me a score of 370. Seems awfully low. Thanks!

Also, say I root my phone, and then I decide that I want to change to a larger microSD card. Is it just a matter of copying the contents from the old (smaller) card to the new (larger) card, or will I be required to do something with the root?
