correct, no gold card needed mate, i rooted mine yesterday im running Vista 32 bit, HTC desire on Orange network, i was surprised that i didnt get a sim lock as i was on a orange branded handset, but i was fully prepared to but an unlock code just in case.

Great guide Kboya, your last part regarding phone stuck in boot loop and dropping out the battery was the way i had to do it too.

big props to the Unrevoked team as well for doing their thing ;)

First of all. thanks for the guide ! :-)

i have a question though. How do i know if my apps are being installed on the sd card?

Does this happen automaticly, or am i missing some steps?

Flashman

@Flashman: depends on the ROM you are using, is it a 2.1 or 2.2 ROM? did you partition your sdcard for 'oldskool' a2sd, or do you mean the inbuilt 2.2 apps to sd?
The 2.2 inbuilt does it automatically, but it is up to the dev to allow it. To check whether apps are on sdcard do settings> manage applications and there is now a tab bar at the top, select 'on sdcard'
I am unfamiliar with the 'oldskool' method, but do know you need a ROM that supports it and a partitioned sdcard. There are plenty of people who can help you with this.

Phone display should now be clockworkmod recovery (green text on black background)
You are now rooted

If I follow kboya's guide to this point were my phone is rooted, how do I stop here and start the phone?

Also dose this work with 0.80 boot loader?

Hi,

Please help.

I am currently running the "ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1
and once I have created a nandroid backup, which ROM should I flash? It is not clear in the guide.

It is not rooted (I don't think) it just flashed the recovery image and so now what ROM should I put on? I want Froyo + Sense 2.2 but the phone is not yet rooted? So what do I do.

I am sitting with the clockworkmod recovery menu right now.

Thanks so much m8, ben looking for a decent all in one guide to do this as so many have bits and bobs but assume you know more than most people actually do. Ta much!!!

A little tip for anyone who hits the same issue that I did:

I had never installed HTC Sync on my PC. The readme/guide said to uninstall it so I figured this was the same thing and tried to just skip that part but Unrevoked refused to talk to the phone.

To fix this I first had to install HTC Sync, and then uninstall it again, but leaving the HTC Driver Installer as indicated in the readme/guide. Then it worked fine.

You have to choose the ROM (and maybe radio) that you want. I am clear about this, and recommend you have them on your sdcard before you get to the recovery stage.
Based on what you say, I suggest: [ROM-FroYo] Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM (16/07 v1.0c | OpenDesire Team) - xda-developers but, only as the one I am running; there are many, each with positives and negatives, and it is up to you to find the one with the features you want:o
Hope this helps

This guide is fantastic!!!! Cheers for this, all i need to do now is find out how to install app2sd on my newly rooted desire.

Can anyone help a newbie

the update to the guide (1st post) covers a2sd, partitioning the sdcard seems to allow it automatically
