Root rooting update question?

When I root my droid 2.1 and whenever 2.2 aka froyo comes out what do I do to update it to that operating system?

Is it easy? Or should I just wait till 2.2 comes out then root from there.

You should root now, while it's easy. Then, when 2.2 "comes out", as in it is released on AOSP, you can upgrade to a ROM that is based off of 2.2, which will be out most likely months before Verizon pushes a 2.2 OTA to non-root users.
