Root Rooting.. Why? and How?

MarkkInNj

Newbie
Ok, that was vague. But I am wanting to root my commando. I have found plenty of old posts of rooting and I have found the files from pax about the new one for 2.3.3. But I am nervous about rooting my phone, since this is my first root... :(

But anyways, I have been doing a lot of reading, probably too much (way over-thinking it) lol

How do I root it using the files that I downloaded? I can't post links yet to show you, but it came from the page from Rooted my Commando! Thank You!!

And how does it work? I am extremely curious about how this works, since I have been getting more involved with coding. Thanks! Sorry for being a newb and posting again! Just looking for up to date instructions and some education! :D

Welcome to the forum! As I'm sure you read, rooting allows superuser privileges, which allows us much more access to our phones true capabilities. There are many reasons to root. Most just use it to run apps that require root privelages, such as titanum backup to delete pesky bloatware. Others to wirelessly tether, which has saved me many times. Running scripts make this phone much faster but that is a little more advanced. And some people are in the process of getting our phone to do much more amazing things such as overclock or flash custom roms. I can say from my experience that my phone is at least twice as fast and completely tailored to my needs. This phone is only getting better daily and the only way to keep up is to root.

There isn't really much to be worried about yet because bricking your phone is usually the cause of messing around in things you shouldnt be. but rooting to download apps that require root privileges isnt anything serious and no one has bricked just by the rooting process.

I'm assuming you downloaded the batch file from that thread but SuperOneClick also works now since they updated. Essentially you need ADB running with the newest updates. Make sure when you connect your phone to your computer you have "USB Debugging" on. Once you have that, and you unzipped the files you downloaded just click runme.bat and watch it work.

It should be as simple as that. I've rooted my friends 2.3.3 commando with this link and it worked flawlessly. (I'm still running 2.2.1)

Again, if you are more comfortable using a program, SuperOneClick is now working.

As for what its doing, it is just putting new files on, and replacing some old ones, while installing the super user app.

Sidenote: If you've done reading about the updating and freezing vs deleting, most people will tell you to freeze instead of delete apps in case we get another update and this issue arises again.

I'm sure many more people are willing to help you out here. Good luck rooting, I'd definitely recommend it!

Thanks for the quick reply! I am currently about to take flight! You're post was less confusing and made me feel quite comfortable. Thanks again!

yeah, just makes your phone like 10x more customizable. basically by having root access, you own your phone and can do whatever you want to it.

i don't understand why i have to break warranty on a device i paid money for just to delete bs apps that i'll never use. computers aren't like that. if i want to uninstall internet explorer, i can. if i want to delete solitary it doesn't void the warranty.

does it take a long time? It doesn't seem to b doing anything.. :(

Edit: never mind.. figured out the problem ahah It said All Done! so I think that's all.. right?

Check your apps drawer and see if you have the Super User app, its the android robot with an eyepatch. if so, you're all set to start looking up helpful apps

Suggestions:
Adfree
Titanium Backup
Barnacle Wifi tether

Thanks! I got them all, and working nicely! Now I want to freeze my apps, but I can only do that in titanium pro :(

Thats why i deleted mine, i'm fine running 2.2.1, there were no major bugs to fix anyway so i'd probably delete again instead of paying the 6 bucks for pro

Hmmm.. Okk! Sweet, I will look around. I rooted my buddies at work as well! and then the floor model in cell phones. I work at best buy.. haha

Good job sir! have you seen the video of the guy who rooted the floor model for the giant s? (I think it's the s, I'm not 100% sure)

Legend ... Wait for it! ... Dary!

hahha No I haven't! I'll have to check it out.. do you know why my phone keeps force closing? I froze voice control, and I keep getting a force close for com.nuance.android.vsuite.vsuiteapp :(

oh really? i want to try this on a giant model now lol. if there's a root method for a device that you can just download without hooking it up to a PC, i'd do it lol

that dude that rooted the Nexus S, seems like a real idiot, and if he can do it, then maybe someone whoe knows something should be able to.

If you are that person, at least tape the whole process. He didn't.

Fyi, depending on what firmware the razr is running, it can only be rooted by zergRush (i.e. You need a PC hooked up to it.)

Whelp.. I went into work, and well, it was a demo of it, that could only "view" how it worked.. and it wasn't a real OS.. I didn't know that :( I haven't played with it since it showed up in the back room. I'm off in computers, so the mobile department is not a place i visit often.. Makes the day depressing.. lol
