Root rooting with linux

mate i have just been looking at different roms and decided to go for cm7 first as it looks the dogs...

That's what I'm on at the moment... I've had no probs with it, although I am going to be changing sooon (just wanna try a few different ROM's out, so I can decide ultimately which is best for me!)

read through a few posts saying you have to wipe and factory reset all this malarkey so i did. after doing this (havent flashed cm7 yet) and rebooted, ive found that rom manager, visionary and super user arent theremore (should have seen it coming from the word 'wipe' really!) ive reinstalled rom manager and the clockworkmod is showing 3.0.2.6 still.

Oops! Wouldn't worry too much... you'll still be rooted! When I wiped everything, I did an install before rebooting...

is it ok to now copy over the cm7 zip to sd card and reboot into recovery?

Yeah - you should be fine!

also so i need to partition the sd and if so what size is best?

All that is taken care of by CWM... don't need to worry!

thanks again for earlier

No bother mate!! Glad you're all sorted!!! :D

Don't partition the SD, it's not required. If you do, then do it via the PC, not Clockwork. It should be fixed in 3.0.2.6, but partitioning your SD with 3.0.2.5 turned your handset into a lovely brick.

As I say, it's supposed to be sorted in 3.0.2.6, but if you do it, I'd use the PC tbh.

great, thanks. one less thing to do then. have you tried cm7 yet? is it more stable to get cm7 through rom manager or can i download it through the computer and copy it to sd? i think the hardest past is choosing the damn ROM now!

I think I got CM7 from ROM manager and then flashed it via CWM... it all worked a treat!! :)

yeah was gonna do it that until i realised my router at home is broke and my mobile data is at its limit. according to the site link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957336

the download: Download: update-cm-7.0.3-DesireHD-signed.zip

just below this the developer is saying:

the 7.0.3 update is *ONLY* for people using 7.0.2* stable builds. You'll hose your system if you install it on a nightly from the last week (2.3.4/GRJ22).

am i safe using the above zip?!

You should be fine... the nightly builds are less stable, but more exciting to some people/devs... I'll get my phone and look at what version I'm running and post back on here!! :)

EDIT - I'm on version 7.0.3, which I flashed without having 7.0.2... you'll be fine!

If you're worried about your data, then get it when you're somewhere you can connect via WIFI!

Just gotta run, but gimme a shout tomorrow if you need any more info!
