Root rooting xperia mini pro and the 2,1 update

Excuse my ignorance,- ive been reading some info but have a question.

If i roote the phone, will i be able to updatre to 2.1 when its available?
 
Maybe you will, maybe you won't! Rooting does not have anything to do with the official SE update. If you debrand your phone, then if your carrier is slow you'll probably get 2.1 faster as you won't have to wait for their own "branded" version.

If the bootloader had been cracked then it might have been a different option depending on the availability of custom ROMS.
