Root Rooting

Instead of just a link, maybe I can help out, since I just rooted my phone recently.

Rooting basically allows you to have "admin" permissions on your phone. This allows your phone to be completely unlocked to the features that the manufacturers and service providers block. Rooting does however, void your warranty. But things like Wifi tethering and overclocking, and even upgrading to Gingerbread become a lot easier.

The first step to rooting is knowing exactly what you are getting into. You don't want to blindly step into some crazy thing and have no idea what you just did to your phone. Personally, i read this post from Android Central- Here.

That post helped me greatly understand more about rooting.

Now to the actual process of rooting your V. The easiest way I found was to use Rom Tools. The thread to this program can be found - Here. In that thread it explains everything you need to get your phone rooted properly!

After that you must decide if you want to put a custom rom/kernal/mod onto your phone. I decided to put Bumblebee 2.4 onto my V and I love it!. Just search for it if you want it.

Hope this helped. Please reply with any other issues, questions, or concerns.http://forum.androidcentral.com/opt...-roming-modding-hacking-read-get-started.html

There's a reason why they were directed to the all things root section. Everything needed to properly root their phone is discussed there. How to set up ADB, how to install the drivers needed, and the many methods to root, not to mention the Roms that will work for the "V",If you really wanted to help(the first link you posted will definitely help them on making a decision whether to root or not)them you should have directed them to the best source for info and help for their phone. ALL THINGS ROOT

I agree. HOWEVER, I looked in there myself, and it's not that easy sometimes to follow everything. Why not help someone when they ask for it?

Again, I have to point out the All Things Root section. The VERY FIRST STICKY is for the ROMTools.v231.by.mmmark111v. I know a lot of people are like me(once they make up their mind it has to be done RIGHT NOW not next month),But all that did was give me a borked(doesn't actually work, but it's not actually bricked either) Optimus "V". It is better to have them read and research on the subject, then, ask Questions in the proper section by starting a thread. We don't know why pimpinr(by the way, Welcome pimpinr!)wanted to root their phone. Maybe they just wanted to get ride of the bloatware(the VM apps that are well....not used and take up about 10MB of precious room on the app partition.) and only needs a Temp. root. Maybe they want a full root so they can fully customize their phone. All these things you never asked them. Last but not least ,this is the wrong section for discussions on rooting and ROMs. that is why aeroseek properly directed them to the All Things Root section. We get freely, and we give freely;but we have to be careful that if we can't fully help them ,to direct them to the place that can. Lack of knowledge is a curse and will lead to nothing but a borked or bricked phone. I know! With these phone's we need to pay attention to every single detail,or you can mess them up. Some people can't afford to brick the only phone they got. I hope you don't take all this the wrong way, I'm just trying to let you see how important are help can, or can not be, to a "Nuub"(I should know,I'm a "Nuub" too).
