your version doesnt make sense. the most current version(mr2) is version 1.70.605.0. assuming you just have an extra 5,you have understood incorrectly
the manual method techincally does still work with this version just fine if you want to do it that way.
the best,fastest,and easiest method of rooting currently is this: Revolutionary

sorry,i dont think so either. there are currently downloads for windows and linux. if you want to root with the mac,the manual method is the only way.
i personally would borrow a laptop,or go to someones house to borrow use of a windows PC. the tool,the drivers and,and superuser file are all small so they download fast and are easily deletable. it will literally take you 20 minutes or less unless you have an unforseen issue.

You could use VirtualBox (it supports os x)and boot a free version of linux, for example Ubuntu
