Help Routing (routd) on android

Folks,

New to android (4.1.1)

I want to connect the S3 to our home wifi network. The wifi network is secured and hidden. My question is about routing from the "mobile data" or 4G network connection to the wifi network. I dont want to allow the unsecured 4G network to have access to my secured wifi network. Is there a concept of "routd" that runs on android?

I dont mind being blasted for not RTFM, tell me where the manual is, dont hesitate to point me to links where I can find the answer.

Thanks
Ed!

If you have a secure WiFi you most likely have a passkey you need to enter to connect. Is that right?

If so, on your phone, go into setting and select WiFI. You should see your home WiFi network. Select it and enter your passkey.

I hope this is what you are asking.

i dont quite understand what u mean but if u connect to ure home wifi the mobile data does not function. When u disconnect the mobile data would connect again.

Bros,

What I mean by routing: On conventional unix computers with 2 or more network cards, you can use the route daemon to allow network A access to network B, like a dedicated layer 3 router, ex: cisco 2500, etc.

This phone has 2 network interfaces, the verizon network "4G" radio, and the wifi radio. (there may be others buried in there, a proxy thru the USB, etc)

If both of these are "on", ie, you can ping something on the internet through them, then it is technically possible that traffic on the internet can use the "4G" network interface to route thru the GS3 and access resources on the wifi network, like secured and private disks, printers, etc. There is an IP address assigned to my 4G network interface, and this arouses my suspicion.

My question is: if there is a route daemon in the android 4.1.1 version, and is it on these phones, and can it be configured to do what I described.

Also, an app from a seemingly trusted source could have a vulnerability that would allow an exploiter to get access to my phone through the 4G interface, and thusly, my protected private wifi network (assuming the wifi network is enabled and connected).

silentwitness suggests that when wifi is connected, the 4G interface is disabled. HOWEVER, I can still make calls from the device when the wifi is connected. The 4G radio is still enabled and "connected". It looks like you would have to manually shut down the 4G interface in this scenario. I read that the network affinity is for the wifi first, then the 4G, thank god, packets through the verizon network aint cheep!

As stated above the 4G is turned off while on Wi-Fi unless called for, example MMS and Phone calls. 4G will not merger connect to a Wi-Fi.
