I started having failures with the microSD card that came with my phone, but found that reformatting the card solved the problem. I recommended either formatting the card with a special SD Formatter or replacing the card that comes with the phone immediately. You can buy a 16 GB class 2 microSDHC card for $40-$50. If you don't want to spend the money for the upgrade right now, I'd suggest reformatting the card right away with the SD Formatter.
If you're like me and are having problems, try reformatting the SD card. Here's the steps:
- Download the SD Format utility and Manual
- Install the utility
- Plug your phone into the supplied USB cable and select "Mount Drive" when the option appears
- Use Windows Explorer to locate the SD card. You should get a popup that says "Removable Drive (X. Choose Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer. Clicking that option will bring up an Explorer window with the files and folders on your SD card displayed.
- Backup all the files from the SD card to a folder on your desktop.
- Run the SD Formatter utility on the SD Card (which is still mounted).
- When the format is complete, copy the backup files back to the reformatted card.
- Done
Note: There is a Windows only program stored on the SD card in a folder called HTC Sync. Inside that folder is a file named "HTCSync2.0.31.exe". When you double-click that file, it installs HTCSync on your computer. It's used to sync your contacts and calendars from your computer to your phone. This is important if you're a business person and need up-to-date information on your phone before you leave the office. For me, I'm using Gmail and that automatically syncs with your phone, so I won't be using this utility.
For those that are going to use Outlook with your phone and want to sysn, plug your phone into USB and you will see the following screen. Click "HTC Sync" and then run the HTC Sync utility on your desktop computer to sync your contacts and calendars.
Before getting your phone
- Sign up for a Gmail account (highly recommended) and edit your contacts. You can import from CSV files from Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Eudora and some other apps. We also support importing vCard from apps like Apple Address Book. While editing, click on the avatar to add a picture of your contact. When you turn on your phone, it will ask you to create a Gmail account or it will ask you to sign in. Do this part before hand and all your contact information will automatically sync with your phone.
- Create a Qik account. That way, your videos will be transferred to the web for sharing and you will be set for video conferencing.
- Create a DropBox account for storing files. There's an app for this in the Android Market, but you can sign up ahead of time.
This is an exciting time. Good luck to everyone on Friday!
