Help Rugby losing battery life

Hubby just got this phone a year and 3 months ago. Just recently, it's draining the battery excessively. He's not a big phone user, doesn't text, doesn't surf net, etc. He uses it for the phone capability only. It's drained to below 30% daily for the past 2 days after completely charging it both days. Any ideas? I can't imagine the battery going bad after only a little more than a year.

The life of Lithium batteries is fairly unpredictable. Some will last years, others can die in months. Ideally, one should replace a cell battery every year but who has money for that? Mine's a year and 2 months old, has been through numerous ROMs, area codes and battery tests (heavy load abuse).

How would we save all his contacts, etc. prior to replacing the battery?

The battery has no effect on the phone storage, so they'll all be there before and after the swap.
