Root ruined SDcard?

For some reason I can no longer format the SD card. Every time I try it f
gives an error. Unable to format. Has anybody had this? Is there way to fix it?

This happened when I used winimg to set up my rom for cm7.

Had the same issue with mine. I ended up downloading partitioning software (free version) which can recognize all the partitions and delete them; restoring your SD card back to stock.

Try EASEUS Partition Master (google it, and you should be able to get a free one)

Check download.com as well.

Good luck!

If you Google diskpart, you'll find some commands you can type in a command prompt that might work too.

When you use an imaging program like Win32diskimager to flash a card, it does a full write including partition. Used to be called a low level format, something that you used to do to HDDs before standard formatting.

These cards get formatted with something like EXT3 rather than the normal FAT32. If the computer can't recognize the partitions, it can't format it. That's why it appears unusable.

As mentioned, there is software that will recognize the partitions and can restore the SD cards. One is EaseUS, which I have and is excellent. I've also heard HP has a SD card utility that will wipe even the most stubborn cards.
