[RUMORED] GPS Fix Sept 18th!!!

Seems to me this thread's title is inaccurate or at best misleading. This is the AT&T Captivate board, and there is no word whatsoever that AT&T is going to push out a GPS on Sept 18th. In fact, there's no word on AT&T pushing out the update in Sept at all, or any word on when they might. All we know is Samsung will release the fix sometime in Sept... but it'll be up to the carriers to then distribute it on their network. AT&T has been silent on this.

Title edited to indicate that this is rumored :)

I thought the gps fix samsung said they would push it out on their site, not thru the carriers, am i wrong with that ? I know froyo is going to be pushed thru carriers so may take longer but wasn't sure the gps update was being pushed thru carriers also

This is no rumor! Its facts from a tmobile employee. Read the post before changing my topic!

I believe they were referring to it being a rumor about the Captivate through AT&T, you wrote about it being available to T-Mobile. While this is great news that there may be a fix for T-Mobile, it does not help most of here is this forum as it is a Samsung Captivate forum. So no I don't believe it is even a rumor for us yet as there is no word of AT&T. If you were offended that your post was changed, maybe you should post it in a T-Mobile forum.

Customer service reps (of any carrier) are not a reliable source of information. Even second and third level support are not reliable when it comes to talking about manufacturer fixes.

Until it happens or is announced by Samsung it is rumor. This is even hearsay as another person is saying "a rep told me" this is not a Tmo rep stating a date anyway.

Also, any release date by Tmo does not necessarily reflect on what AT&T will do. In the GPS thread (the post that is a reply from an AT&T rep) AT&T says it is a manufacturer problem, so we may all get a text telling us to go to Samsung and download an APK - it might not even be carrier dependent.

Until Samsung speaks - or a credible source at one of the carriers - we just don't know.

I did. Calm down. :)

Until it hits, it's a rumor. Until AT&T says it, it's a rumor. The Sprint Hero went through MONTHS of he/she said rumors from "reliable sources" saying that 2.1 was coming next week. Until it's 100% official, it's a rumor.

No use getting worked up, you can't change the thread title anyways :p

I visited my local ATT shop (where I got my phone and my wife got her iPhone) and most of the people there seem to PREFER the Captivate to the iPhone 4. The store manager is a bonafide Apple guy and even HE likes it.

Anyway, I stopped in the other day to see if anything had changed with the GPS issue. This time (as opposed to all the times I talked to them before) they were very "up" on the situation. One guy even went so far as to say that "they" (not sure who that would be) are starting the GPS fix rollout in Europe NOW. He told me to see if anything pops up about it online and then come back Saturday if I decide it's not worth it and want to switch. Tomorrow my 30 days are up and I have to make a decision. ;)

I may just switch it out for another Captivate. My reason being is that the volume rocker on the side has lost its snappy tactile feedback and now kind of "mushes" when I press it. It still works, but I'm worried it will break soon.
