Help Running an older version of CM - becoming unstable - what version to run and how to update

Tim K

Android Expert
I've had my Touchpad on CM since it was first released to beta. I stopped updating a while back, in fact I'm running CM9 20120903 nightly.

I know the last release was 20130929 so there's a lot in between.

Basically, all I want is the most stable release without any real issues. I don't care about the camera, I want WiFi to work and the OS to not randomly shut down.

I know there are some other changes that took place that might require me to change the acme installers, or the file system or something....

So any tips would be appreciated including links to step by step instructions.

Thanks,

Hi Tim,

Roland has an excellent guide on a number of forums. You might check that out. He usually rates the different roms and lists the good and bad of each. [ROM GUIDE] How to Update/Install Android 4.2, 4.3 & 4.4.2 Builds on the HP TouchPad - xda-developers

A "data/media" rom will require resizing your data partition, otherwise you can leave it alone with a "non-data/media" rom. Anything newer than what you have requires a larger system folder, which flashing with AcmeInstaller 5 will take care of.

[Guide] How to guide for changing your system, data, and cache partition sizes to wha - xda-developers

I like flintman's roms and just flashed his latest DM build from here. He also has a non-DM build. I've only used it for an hour so really can't comment on it's stabilty.

DM roms require a special recovery. Flintman has a TWRP version on his first post.

If you're going newer, I'd backup what you need and acme uninstall and start over (or at the very least format data). I unintentionally upgraded from CM10 to CM11 and it looped until I formatted data (factory reset).

OTOH, just clearing the caches and reflashing your existing rom (is it still on your tablet?) might get you some relief from issues.

OTOOH, :D Jc's roms are always good and I don't think they're DM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680

I would bet that he is still using the old versions of CWM or TWRP which have the /system corruption issues. I would also recommend J.C. Sullins's CM10.1 Bluetooth or VPN snapshot for great performance and stability. Definately need to start over by uninstalling with ACMEUninstaller2 and using ACMEInstaller5. Start using J.C.'s CWM6 here:

Might as well download Moboot 0.3.8 too.
