Help Running applications ?

I have a bunch of stuff running under Running Apllications (settings>manage apps ? running) list that I never use like flick, fm radio, footprints, etc? Are these actually running or what? There is a ton of stuff shown running and I am wondering if it's killing my battery. I force stop them but that does not keep them from running. Is this where ATK would come in handy?

no theyre just there doing nothing. any task killer will just kill your battery faster by shutting them down then they restart and so on. root your phone and then delete those apps. (read more into it then what i just typed but thats the jist)
