Root Running CM7 from SD card - no need to root

Hi I'm new to custom roms on nook. I read through the linked thread, and was not able to fully understand some of the technical terms. especially the beginning. I'm not sure how to write the provided image to the sd card, and I don't know what a uSD card is. thanks

uSD card = miscroSD card

I used WinImage to write to my uSD card:

Download WinImage

What you want to do is download the file from the XDA thread. And then after you unzip it there is a image file in it. Open up WinImager as an administrator:

disk -> make sure your SD card is selected

then

disk -> restore virtual hard disk image on hard disk using the image file from the previous download.

Once you have your SD card set up from that follow the directions in the XDA thread on how to install.

Can I do this even though I'm currently running Nookie Froyo from the eMMC?
Absolutely.

The NC boots from SD card, and if there is no bootable files, then defaults to eMMC. Just as you ran Froyo on your uSD card before HarleyChick. When you pop out the card and reboot, everything reverts back to the way it was.

Excellent chance to try out CM7 without having to backup all settings and change ROMS. Performance wise, it will not be near as fast as it could be but it's worth checking out to see if you like before taking the CM7 plunge.

I tried this today. I recommend that anyone that may want to do it, read the instructions - all the instructions - several times. Be very comfortable before you do it. It works very well, and just as it is supposed to. You do have to load the gapps separately, but it isn't very hard.

Unfortunately, I find that I enjoy the process more than I do the ROM. I think I'll be sticking with Froyo for the time being. Or at least until CM7 is more stable. :)

Okay, so I lied....kinda. I flashed Phiremod v5.2 yesterday and it totally rocks! I know its built off of CM7, so I guess I lied when I said I would wait for CM7 to be more stable.

I just can't help myself! Now that I have figured out how to do all this flashing stuff, I just can't stop. Maybe I should start a support group - ROM Flashers Anonymous: "Hi, my name is Chick, and I have a problem....." :o

CM7 is super stable, I actually moved to running it off of internal memory. The work that mad-murdock has been putting into it is nothing short of amazing in the time he has done it.
