Help Running 'Hello World' Android App

gonsays

Lurker
Hello guys,

I'm new on the forum and a newbie on Android Dev. I've been following the tutorial at developers.android.com and I'm on the 'RUN' part: http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/running-app.html

I have done an "Hello World" App and I would like to install and test it on my Android (Real Device) as a normal App (without using the "Developer Options").

Is there a way to make and upload an 'HelloWorld.apk' and run it on the device as a regular App? How can I do it?

Thank you very much in advance! :)

Welcome to our AndroidForums, @gonsays :).

Yes, you should be able to easily do what you want:

1. Just transfer the file (HelloWorld.apk) from your PC to your Android device (connect USB cable and copy/paste from PC to your device_

2. Startup your file manager (or download one from the Play Store--I'm currently using X-plore) and either short-press or long-press and follow the pop-ups asking if you want to install.

You might see a pop-up saying "Install blocked" if you don't have "install from unknown sources" enabled in your Settings app (it should give you the option to go to Settings and enable that option (turning if OFF when you are done is a good security precaution, though)). After that, just return to the file manager and retry doing the install.

Make sense?

Cheers and happy developing!

:)
