Running out of space on my Desire.

excuse my noobness, but the hard reset does not reverse the procedure?
Yes and if you want the option to save to sd again you can skip some steps and then reload the apps because you have sdk on your computer.

I suggest you read william's thread a few times, it's worth it!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Desire has an awesome spec that will hold up for a while longer, but it's let down by whichever douche bag thought 148 MB of internal memory would suffice. I don't use any huge apps or even use loads, but by the time phone only apps are installed and building up data and cache, it doesn't take much for it to get full, then you have the issue of needing around 28 MB of internal memory free for updates. This weak link in the spec can be a showstopper.

The 2 GB of dedicated internal memory the Samsung Galaxy S has got would be more than enough for my needs and means I could install some of the additional Google apps I would like to try and still have more than enough space left.

I have a ton of apps and still have 90% left on my Desire! ;)

You haven't noticed any hiccups or glitches from your apps because you force them to install on the SD card? For example.... the Flash 10.1 update is like a whopping 12 megs. If I force this to install on the SD card I would imagine it could cause problems because from what I've been told it needs to sit on internal memory to be integrated with the browser.

I just like to understand the consequences or issues a little more if there are any.

Did not update the new flash and have 0 issues otherwise.

I forgot about the option to move data to sd on unrooted devices, but i stand by the best option is put on a custom rom. I can control the leakage of apps to the internal space this way. I tried the other, and still ran out of space.

Root, custom rom, a2SD+, 1GB ext partition, S-OFF, Custom MTD layout. I Have 222MB internal memory free and nearly 700MB EXT free, all for apps and cache.

Kicks the ass of any "Non root" solution

I always had about 20mb of internal space on mine.

Recently I restored my phone back to stock settings, deleting everything.

(Made sure I backed up my contacts to SD and also copied all my SD contents to my laptop).

Then I reinstalled all the apps etc.

Now I have 65mb of space.

Maybe doing this removes any fragmented files that come with installing and deleting data and apps.

another noobish question, posting it here instead of making a new thread.. Is it possible to root a new desire that comes with 2.2 installed and SCLD? Just need to be sure before ordering one.. :)

It really annoys me too. Everyday I have less and less memory. I am using the stock mail application and I suspect the facebook app has something to do with it. I wish I was not so scared to root. If only...
