running with a droid

I don't care if I'm a real athlete anymore! With kids and a job, gotta maximize the 'me time' and get some entertainment and exercise in simultaneously!

I just got the XtremeMac Sportswrap for the iPhone 3gs last week and love it! The incredible fits almost perfectly...It's centered in the window, and secure. You pull a flap over the top that just needs a little tug to reveal the audio jack. That flap helps secure it. I put it on my forearm with the top of the phone facing my hand. Makes it easy to switch between C25K Pro, CardioTrainer and Slacker, etc.

back pocket of my jeans for long bike rides

it gets its own pocket on my gym shorts if I'm riding hard on hot days

I miss the ability to skip tracks by holding the volume rocker (like the storm did), but I'm happy with it as a music player.

I carry my Dinc in the Seidio belt holster and it works like a champ! I have used the Seidio clips to carry my phone many miles, including a marathon, without issue.

Also, I found an app called imapmyrun and a website imapmyrun.com that tie together nicely. I switched from cardio trainer and love this app...

Mapmy run finally put out an app? About time! :)

I don't use any mp3 player or phone while running. Real athletes focus on the burn, not needing the distraction or crutch of music to get through a run :p. LOL

What you imply about our 'inability' to focus on the burn, sans inspirational music, I have to infer the same about your 'inability' to focus with a little auditory distraction. Fact of the matter is, you seem unable to function in more than one capacity at a time.

As i said before, I forgoe listening to music in preference for a good book (not to take anything away from the music lovers - whatever floats your boat). It's a bit like watching a movie in my head and helps to pass the time. You might say I need something to occupy the remaining portion of my massive brain; that or I just suffer from a mild case of ADD during my runs, wishing to have something other than ever expanding road beneath my feet to occupy my interests.

And you refer to professional athletes only listening to their headphones outside of actual performances. Am I to assume you compete 'Professionally' on a daily basis, and therefore must not allow yourself the enjoyment of such entertainment at 'any' time? If that is indeed the case, I tip my hat to you. If not, I must redirect your attention to all those professional athletes and their preferred accessories while 'training'.

I guess the moral of the story is this: I'll do what works for me and you do what works for you, and we'll all live happily ever after. ;-)

On to the OP:
I currently use SportyPal to map and catalog my runs. However, I've seen a lot of recent talk about CardioTrainer. But, when i look online, the GPS functionality has left a little to be desired in the reviews. Also, the fact that I have a few weeks worth of run data already listed on my SportyPal profile leaves me hesitant to try something different. Additionally, I read something that led me to believe that CardioTrainer sends you to google maps to see your actual run map (I like that SportyPal's maps are right within the native application - even if it is pulled in from an outside source).

Could someone please explain why I might like CardioTrainer more?

Thanks.

I haven't used SportyPal, just CardioTrainer so I can't compare, but I can clarify that CardioTrainer does infact track your runs/walks on a map inside the app itself. It does use Google Maps in two ways - the map inside CardioTrainer is google maps, like a lot of apps do (like WeatherBug's radar map, for example) but it shows you the route with a line, distance, average speed etc that you have gone. The 2nd way it uses google maps, is that you can go online on your PC and see those maps on your computer on their website.

I'm assuming both apps are similar. I am sorry I cannot compare, but everything in CardioTrainer is done within the app itself.
