can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to return my desire back to stock , as i might have to put it up for sale soon
the phone was unbranded when i bought it so just back to the last froyo would be fine ,

No, an RUU is a windows program. Connect your phone to a PC and run the .exe.

Since I've not run an RUU myself, I thought I'd check whether there was anything else. I remember that the US Cellular update came with instructions for running it, so had a look at that: HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC Desire? (US Cellular) - Downloads

According to the "how to" PDF it seems that they want you to put the phone into usb storage/disk drive mode - which wouldn't have been my first guess. Otherwise it is as I said.

There aren't any of the new ones about, I don't think

As for running the RUU, best boot the phone into FASTBOOT, connect to the PC and once it says FASTBOOT USB on the phone (and drivers are installed) run the RUU
