Root RUU big update ....rusty :/

No bootloader is firmware so not touched by roms. Hmm, work back until you hit one that works. Trouble is we don't know which version was used for the backup you downloaded.

guess its not to be - tried 2.7.0.1 m8 and seems to say all the right stuff .... but cant see recovery listed in hboot screen :/
....probably saved me from bricking my phone anyways :D

Hey Dan, ok that's a bit odd. Have none of these worked? Maybe need to try :

fastboot erase cache

after flashing recovery, and then try to load recovery. I've tried to do a search for an O2 RUU but I haven't managed to find anything. I did find that someone did manage to flash 2.8.1.0 with the 3.16 bootloader, otherwise you might have to work you way through them all until you get the one that works.

Edit: Does the 2.7.0.2 version not work, just wondering how you manage to get it on previously?

hiya - ah erase cache is a good idea - assume then flash it again?
thanks for the ruu search
no the 2.7.0.2 didn't work either - which suggests its sumink else - like the cache
...only difference before was that I did it on a win7 pc I think rather than this xp laptop :/
cheers

Yep, no harm doing erase cache, flash recovery, erase cache then try to launch recovery. Damn, hope this works - I'm now feeling bad you've lost your working recovery over this :(

Maybe not until we've exhausted other options, but you could always try Sunshine on the version of Viper you're running and see if it works - you won't get charged if it isn't successful.

hey no worries :) I wasn't using it anyway as not flashed ought since 1.8 :D
...ah yes good idea about the sunshine on current viper ...but not quite yet :D
cheers

TWRP 2.8.1.0 should work if you're on an older HBOOT version. Any version after that requires at least L firmware to properly boot.

The 3.0.0 versions require Marshmallow firmware.

EDIT: I definitely recommend running SunShine to gain S-OFF before updating anything (if you still have a booting system). That'll make it possible for you to go SuperCID and then you can use the Dev/Unlocked Edition firmware. If you also change your model ID, you can even use the RUU.

hi guys,
sorry to much work on at mo to try things :(
...ah ok - so try sunshine as my phone is now then ? ie viper and no recovery?
thanks
dan

Yes, give that a shot and see if Sunshine will run.

EDIT: You can still flash TWRP 2.8.1.0 if you're worried about not having a recovery.

mmm....ok - forget rusty...more like brain dead!! :o cant really say here what I didn't do ;) ... but I found my recovery :D
...I flashed 2.8.0.1 as suggested too - backing up....

...so sunshine - just install apk on device?

thanks

Any clue as to the error? Just checking that you've now got a working recovery again? Come on, own up what you not do :D ? It just probably means you need to get a stock (or close to stock) ROM running - covered in posts #11 and #13.

sunshine just said error - something to do with the rom format - but not those words - I did post it in the sunshine thread, cant recall the wording at mo - soz

......erm....I didn't select hboot! :/ .....there I said it :D ......shame :(

That's OK, yeah it just means the ROM isn't close enough to stock that's all.

You mean bootloader was in hboot and not fastboot? I wouldn't worry, I've done that before as well [emoji4]

yes phew! makes me feel better smile ☺
... so just to grab me one of those twrp stock backups to restore then?
cheers
