Root RUU'd and still not completely back to stock. Please help me help, help me now...

My friend did not have time to root my phone and simply told me to follow some directions and it ended up messing up my EVO 4G. I was working on getting revolutionary and something got messed up. I then tried to put on Cyanogenmod and it worked extremely quirky.

We ended up putting several ROMs on it and they all made it constantly bootloop.

Eventually I found a way to get it to its stock RUU rom and it still messes up. I am in constant roaming with Verizon which doesn't allow me to get service most places I go. So basically my phone is useless as a phone.

Also, certain areas of my phone screen when pressed does not work. For instance i cannot ever type the letter "s" or even activate the text box to put in names for new contacts.

Anybody know how I can get it back to using Sprint towers with no roaming and to be able to enter in all numbers and letters entry via keyboard and text etc? I basically want it to be completely stock and downloading the RUU stock ROM didn't do it all they way unfortunately.

I would eventually like to get FRESH ROM installed after I get this figured out so anybody with good directions or tutorials please share!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we need to know what your hboot is. to get there you will need to get to the bootloader. first off make sure that you have fastboot disabled next power off the phone and then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the bootloader. report back what is on the screen then we can go from there.

With your kernel and android version being 2.2 I would bet you need to root with unrevoked. But until you report back with your h-boot we wont know for sure.

Trying to get back to out of the box stock software. Tried a RUU and still hasn't gone completely stock. I still have antenna signal (roaming issues)...basically can't get signal when I used to get full. It seems to be roaming on Verizon towers. Also, can't type certain areas of the screen or the letter I press does not input.

I researched and on stock Froyo 2.2 and running 3.70 I think I am suppose to be on 1.90 PRI instead of what I currently have downloaded PRI 2.15. Could that be the issue? If so, how do I downgrade properly to 1.90? I heard 1.77 has better battery life would that be a better alternative? Thanks for any help u guys give....I have been on this mystery for almost two weeks!

1.77 was good during the froyo days. it never really helped me much. have you tried to update your radios?

also you may want to try some gingerbread roms as well. not that would really help with 3g.

and i do not think that going back to a stock ruu is the key to your issue.

here is the link for the current radios:
CM-EVO_Radio-2.15.00.12.19_PRI-2.33_WiMax_NV.zip

and here is the link to mikg3.11 which is waaaaaay better then stock:
MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]

one thing on radios:
1.make sure that you have a full battery
2.DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY OUT. please resist the temptation to do it NO MATTER WHAT. pulling the battery out while it is installing is a sure way to brick your phone.
3.make a nandroid backup with wimax backed up. there is a small chance that you could loose your wimax (4g) while flashing radios.

I did a nandroid and RA Recovery as well as clockwork when I initially rooted my phone. As u can tell I got stuck in the process and just started downloading everything. Guess I was lucky I didn't brick it. I dunno if I still have all that on my phone or not. How do I check it? I know that I am S-OFF and it doesn't appear to be rooted as of now.

ok from the looks of it you used a very old froyo ruu which changed your radios. try going into recovery. power off then press and hold power+vol down. if you get a red triangle then you will need to get a recovery. i do not recommend clockwork mod. amon ra is a much better recovery. if you do no know how to do that let me know.

Yes i did get the red triangle. It was awhile since I did the recovery on my phone. If u wouldn't mind explaining that would be great. Thanks

ok so here goes:
1. download this: PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
2.rename the file by deleting everything but PC36IMG. now the key is whether your computer hides extensions or not. when you look at the downloaded file do you see the .img part? if so then make sure that you leave the extension. if not then do not add an extra .img.
3.move the file over to the sd card
4.power off then press and hold power+vol down
5.the bootloader should see the file and just select yes to update.

now you should have amon ra installed.

ok you should not have rebooted. lol now power off then go to the bootloader and select recovery. if you have recovery then you can try some of my suggestions in post #5

It asked to update the device. Pressed YES and now I am in Android System Recovery.

oh yeah next time you get a chance you might want to delete the PC36IMG file from the sd card. next time just select no. otherwise it will install amon ra over again. at the bottom it should say RA supersonic 2.3 or something like that.

Okay. I still have the phone plugged in I will delete the file from my sd card. Yes it does have V2.3 on the bottom.

Guess Ill try these two methods next:

here is the link for the current radios:
CM-EVO_Radio-2.15.00.12.19_PRI-2.33_WiMax_NV.zip

and here is the link to mikg3.11 which is waaaaaay better then stock:

Gotta wait until i have a full battery. Thanks for all your help.

no worries. one thing that i would suggest though, and that is to come over to AF next time before you go and try everything under sun with out really understanding what is going. AF is the best place to get answers for almost anything.

please keep us posted and if you have any questions feel to ask them.

That would be good advice. So hopefully after I can get my touchscreen to work properly and signal back to my phone u would suggest the Mik3.11 rom? Do I just download the full wipe and its done?
