S-BEAM

Does anybody really use S-BEAM? I mean for something other than showing off. In business or family life? Just curious.

Having 3 in our family plus a few other friends with S3's we use it a lot. Mostly use it mostly just to transfer pics or video rather than emailing. Plus almost all of the pics I take are too big to text, and even too big to email if it's a lot of them.

Tbh its only recently that i have friends with s3s lol and now i dont even have any samsung firm/software on the phone :D
I suppose NFC tags could be useful if you had them in say your car and your front door to change settings, launch apps etc. For sharing files i still use bluetooth or email. Even if i knew how to use s-beam, i guarantee my friends wouldnt even know it exists lol :D

Well, I tried S-Beam for the first time today. I had a folder with 15 pictures in it and I wanted to beam the folder to my daughters S2. I could not find a way to send the folder via the beam. I had to send each picture individually. What a pain. Did I miss something? Any help would be appreciated.

Never tried to send an entire folder...will be trying it later though when I have the hubby's phone available :)

I just finished a "Live Chat" with Samsung. They said it is NOT possible to transfer folders at this time. I suggested that they work on making it possible.

You can use WiFi-direct with your daughter's S II since the S II doesn't have NFC so you can't use it with her
By the way NFC or what is called S-Beam is a faster way connect two smart phones together only to send a photo or a video over WiFi-direct so instead of only sending photos and videos you can send an obb file which is sometimes be larger than 1GB in less than 5 minutes

The S II does have NFC or else it could not use S-Beam (which uses NFC and WIFI-direct). What is a"obb" file?

i guess you have S II plus because the international one doesn't have

obb files are the data files of games and some apps and you can find them in

sdcard/android/obb
no need for root

Yeah i thought s-beam was launched with the s3 and nfc was launched with the gnex, both after the s2 was launched?

well ,,,,, I don't actually know when was nfc launched but the S-Beam was launched with S III that is for sure but i don't use it I only use wifi-direct

Well, y'all can say what you want. Her stock-not rooted S II (ATT). received an OTA update a few months ago to 4.1.2. It has NFC and S-BEAM. I have seen it and we have used it.

Here are some pictures (I hope) to show what phone and that it REALLY does have NFC and S BEAM...

Now we're having fun!
