S III Battery use

It's amazing how much battery life you get on a Saturday where you're home all day, on wifi, not using the phone much.

If only my weekdays were like this.

Isn't it though. This phone has amazing B life w/ Wi-Fi. Better than my DROID Charge that I had the extended battery on ( 2600 mAh ).

Scratch what I said about bbs not working, I just downloaded it again and it seems to be fine.

Im going to fully charge it before bed and let it run all night and see about posting a pic of whats going on with the phone.

As promised. Charged to 100 last night and unplugged and went to sleep. Woke up to around 79 percent.

Jeeze, how many hours do you sleep? :p

Mine seems to drop about 10% overnight 5-8 hours. Not bad in my opinion.
Not much different than my DroidX :dontknow:

According to that pic I slept 8 hours and lost 22 percent in that time. That can't be normal.

Depends on what it's doing, signal strength, etc. ....

Mine is with wifi and LTE enabled. Other background processes are off I think.

as they say, "You mileage may differ."

Just chiming in after a few weeks of use. I must say that this battery has been rock solid for me. I'm now making it a full day on a single charge. I think Sammy has out done themselves with the S3. :-)

Also wanted to add for those having issues with battery life give it a few weeks to break in and you will see improvement.

I have wifi on and set to remain on only when plugged into the charger and I am also on lte with around 3 bars at my home.

Being that the Awake time is 1h 36m and your two biggest Kernel Wakelocks are each just over 1hr, it is obvious they are all related.

The bam_dmux_wakelock is an unknown. Many people, including myself, have it high on the list but no one can figure out what it is... yet. In my research to find out what it is the only thing I could find was that 'dmux' can be an abbreviation for 'demultiplexer'. Whether or not that's its meaning in this situation, I don't know.

As for the 'smdcntl0' (that's a zero at the end, not the letter O), I did some Google searching and found that "smd" could stand for "Samsung Mobile Display". Was anything occurring overnight that may have turned the screen on?

Had to create an account because of this thread... the original battery that came with the phone died very fast.. fortunately for me it came with an extra battery. So about 2 days ago i decided i wanted to try that battery so i popped it in the phone kept the phone off and charged to 100%

the results were shocking.. i would post a picture but i cant. im at

1d 19h 12m 42s on battery

22% Discharging

61% cell standby
10% voice calls
7% device idle
7% screen
5% android os
4% android system
2% gmail
2% phone
2% internet

My first battery wouldn't last 1 day even if i didn't use the phone. Maybe the original batteries that shipped with the phones were duds?

I'd suggest buying an extra standard battery.. i got mine from verizon and its the normal 2100 mah

Anyone else experience a notification causing big battery drainage? I had my phone on wifi yesterday and it was sipping power as usual. I got an email at my Gmail account at about 3:15 that I didn't see until 10:30. In that time the battery dropped about 22% in 7 hours, whereas before I got the message and after I cleared the notification it only dropped about 1% every 4-8 hours. As far as I can tell no other applications were running. So does the notification light really use up that much juice (surely not) or is there something else going on?

It's like wifi doubles the capacity of the battery. Now at work, I just shut off mobile data and keep wifi on. I was shocked at the battery life.

Yeah, I wish I could use wifi at work.

I've been using Tasker the last few days to shut my mobile data off after the screen has been off for 5 minutes. It's saved me around 10% more of my battery during a work day. I still can't believe this isn't a built in setting like it was on the Droid x. Now I can pretty easily make it through an entire day without charging, whereas before, sometimes it would be about to die right before I go to bed.

I guess juice defender does the same thing but it turns off as soon as you lock it, so if you lock/unlock your phone a lot like I do, it will burn through your battery even faster.

I'm at 18 hours 21 minutes on battery and have 44% battery life left. I use the phone quite a bit throughout the day too. I'm VERY impressed with this phones battery life. First phone I've ever had that I could unplug from the charger when I wake up, and not charge it until I lay down for bed. Hell, I usually lay down with 50% battery life too!

I did have 2 days where 5 hours into the day I was down to 20%, restarted the phone and it was back to normal.

Seriously guys, EASY BATTERY SAVER works. I usually leave my phone unplug at night from 12:00am on. I set my night schedule to turn off WIFI and DATA from 1am to 5am while I'm sleeping. When I wake up at 6am, my battery only drops about 3 to 4%. Also, my battery life does get better as time goes on in the beginning.

My screen is at 45% and I have the brightness turned down to about 25%. I am at 77% with 2h 54m. Screen is 45%, Cell Standby is at 19%.

What am I doing wrong? It feels like I could get so much more battery out of this, but I haven't even browsed on it too long today.

Mine for today, 4 hours screen time. I'm running CM9. I actually flashed a kernel during this cycle that's supposed to improve battery life.

For some reason my battery has been pretty bad lately. Attached are some screenshots from today. Let me know if you guys know what is causing my battery drain.

I'm at 2.5 hours off charger and battery is 79%. Android system has shot up in use and is at 53%. Any ideas for common culprits or what is going on? Its dropping 1% every 2-3 minutes as I am sitting here.

I've actually been worried about overcharging mine as I charge it overnight. I typically don't have time to charge it before work in the morning, so I charge it at 38% or so most of the time.

Looks like your radio is eating your battery. Do you have 4G on? You might be on the edge of 4g and its struggling to connect all the time. Turning off 4G can be different for certain carriers, so you will need to look that up. This could also be true of 3G, which would be a lot more problematic.

Alnwpi: You almost surely have a wakelock. Look around for some advice on that.
