Root S-Off but no ROOT

Okay, so here is an extremely brief history. I had a TB which was previously rooted with the Revolutionary method. Then due to some warranty issues (completely unrelated) they sent me a new phone. This new phone was the update folks are getting ota with the 2.11.605.5.

So need to root my phone. I went and did the revolutionary way here is the instruction I followed.

While running the program, I got all the way through step 8. This is where the S-OFF is complete and now it's going to download ClockWorkMod and allow you to install the super user file. ***** Problem is, it tried to download the CWM file and failed ***** so I wan't able to install a custom recovery setup on my phone, and thus I was not able to flash the Superuser file.

On the Market site, the CWM developer says he is stalling the rollout of CWM for a while, here is the link which is probably why my simple process above failed when it tried to download the CWM software to put it on the phone.

So here is the bottom line. I'm not a developer, just a user. I have an S-Off TBolt that I need rooted because there are applications I need to use that require root access. I spend a day searching forums but either haven't found or haven't understood anything else like this. I tried running revolutionary again, same issue.

Can anyone help me root this TBolt? Please. The below info may be useful...

Not many people likes ROM manager as it messes up installs. Can you boot in to recovery? you can goto the market and download superuser app. If it installs your phone is rooted and you can install CWM without the rom manager app. There is a zip somewhere on the board. I could be wrong but it might be because of the OTA you are having problems.

if revolutionary isnt installing clockwork for some reason,i wouldnt spend too much time trying to figure it out,as its installing a slightly older than current version anyway.

you are s-off,wich means no security checks. you can flash anything you want in hboot, including a recovery.

simply pick one from here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...0-radios-recoveries-hboot-updated-9-24-a.html

download it,check its md5 sum to make sure you have an unmolested download, then:
1)move it to the root of your SD card and rename to PG05IMG
2)boot into hboot and chose vol up to let it flash
3)reboot,remove or rename PG05IMG
4)place superuser on your sd card.
5)go back to recovery and flash superuser :)

edit: are you actually getting an error message,or is the window just closing? if its the latter, you may have CWM installed-it flashed and closes the window pretty fast. you can check and see if its there before doing the above,if you havent allready.

Thanks, it worked like a charm. To answer your question, yes, the download of the CWR actual "Failed" and said so on the screen. But I followed your steps and I'm right where I need to be. Thanks a bunch.

So I'm having the same problem as the OP. Got the s-off with Revolutionary, but it didn't install ClockWork and I am not rooted. Also, when I boot into recovery, all I get is the triangle with the ! in it. From what I have read, that means it still the stock recovery. I would like to stay as close to stock as possible but still be rooted so I can get rid of the bloatware and add a few apps that require root. The problem is, I don't know which file to download in the link you posted. Could you help me out? My phone info, if needed, is below.

Guess it's pretty obvious I'm new to this. My old original Moto Droid was so different to root. Much more simplified. Any help is appreciated.

Wow, just seen this is a few months old. Hope y'all can still help.

for what its worth, you are not on the revolutionary hboot. you are on the old eng hboot, wich is fine, but overwriteable,so youll need to be extremely careful what you flash(no full RUUs) if you want to stay rooted.

as far as what recovery to install, thats a matter of preference. alot of folks prefer clockwork,i personally use amon ra or twrp. wichever you choose, just download the newest version. :)

That would have been my attempt to unroot & return to factory.

Is it safe for me to use Revolutionary again to update the hboot and get clockwork back on there? I'd rather have an hboot that I can't screw up than to brick my phone. I'm a noob to this method of rooting and I'm finding out my dumb @ss should have stayed factory until it was more streamlined & idiot friendly.

no,i do not believe revouitonary will will work on the 1.04.2000 hboot. your best bet is to just replace it with shadowmites permanent hboot, its the same as whats used in revolutionary.

you can find it here: Patched (hard)hboot 1.04 for s-off/eng/fastboot - xda-developers

and here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...adios-recoveries-hboot-updated-1-25-12-a.html

for clockwork, looks like all the links are broken  here is a mirror:
PG05IMG(CWR5.0.2.1).zip

1)flash shadowmites hboot in hboot
2)flash clockwork in hboot
3)flash superuser in recovery :)
