Root s-off neccesary for leedroid?

Hi

In my previous thread i had some problems rooting my phone but thats ok now (window's mistake:p).

While reading the tutorials and faq's i came across the advantages of having a2sd+ so i'm prepared to use gparted on my sd card but i can't find the answer to one thing.

Currently I don't have s-off. Now i would like to flash a leedroid rom with gingerbread and a2sd and i was wondering if i need to be s-off for that.

If i don't have to be s-off:
What version of leedroid do you recommend. (i already downloaded LeeDrOiD_V3.0.8.2_GB_A2SD.zip btw). If the gingerbread version is kinda buggy, i can live with froyo too;).

If i have to be s-off for leedroid:
Do you have an alternative where i don't need to be s-off to flash a rom with a2sd+ (i prefer a sense rom)

I do remember though that the GB versions of LeeDroid roms have been more successfully flashed with newer hboots. Easiest way to get this is using Alpharev which replaces it with a newer one.

I've been reading alot lately but I have to admit i don't know what a GB version is:o + google doesn't help me. (best guess: something with Great Britain?;))

Currently i have HBOOT-0.93.0001. I don't know how new that is.

Should i go for leedroid v 2.5 or v 3
 
GB = Gingerbread = Android v2.3 :)

Bravo was the original code name for the (GSM) Desire - it's still used as an identifier now.

It's your choice as to which rom - v2.5 is complete, solid it's been developed for a long time so is stable as, well, a stable thing. It was the first rom I flashed after rooting, and it worked fine. His v3.0.x roms are, if I remember, based on a leaked version of GB so may have a few more hiccups in there but may have speed and features the older version doesn't.

Whichever you try, chances are you'll get itchy fingers to try something different pretty soon anyway - maybe Sense 2.1, AOSP roms, MIUI (which is where I've ended up) the choice is almost endless!

Oh, and I have to say, make a nandroid backup in recovery before you flash anything - if, for whatever reason things go tits up, or you're not keen on your new rom for any reason, you can always go back to where you were and start again. ;)
 
I ran leedroid 2.5 for about 2 months without any issues.
Very stable rom with very good battery life if you use setcpu to underclock your processor.

I've been running leedroid 3.8 for the last few weeks and it generally feels a bit faster than 2.5. Battery life is not as good and there have been some problems with the mobile data connection dropping but I think this could be a gingerbread/widgetsoid problem. Overall I'm happy enough with the switch.

From a noob point of view if you want a very stable rom and are not particularly concerned about the gingerbread improvements (mostly under the hood) go for 2.5.

If you want the latest and greatest and don't mind a few minor bugs go for 3.8. Or even better flash both and see which you prefer :)

Yep, GB = Gingerbread (was on phone so avoiding extra letters)

Your 0.93 HBOOT should be fine it was earlier ones that had problems.

I'm still on 2.5 cos I don't see a huge advantage to moving to GB. I've stripped sense from my build and use other launchers (just moved from LP to GO) so the new fancy stuff is lost on me. Lee is though just about to rebuild the standard GB (not the Desire HD port) around the official release so I may just jump to that one,
 
I think i just go with 2.5 then, since batterylife is more important to me than speed and it's more stable.

Just did a titanium backup (only the apps because there isn't much on the phone-system yet). Then I will do the gparted stuff after uninstalling my apps that were moved to my sd.
And last but not least i will do a nandroid backup.

I already thought that might be a good idea;).

So i just finished flashing my first rom:D.
I have to admit it does take a while to startup for the first time so i had very sweaty hands at the end of it;).

I was able to restore pretty much every app i had but the only thing i can't restore are my sms messages. I used 'sms/mms...' to backup but it doesn't want to restore the app (wich is logic since the app is already there) and restoring the data doesn't change anything.
I doesn't really matter since i didn't keep my messages from my last phone either and i had only used the phone for like two weeks or so... I would have been something extra.

Anyhow, i would like to thank you al for aswering al my questions and thumbs up to everybody supporting this wonderfull forum:D!

The easiest way to transfer messages between ROMs is with a different backup app. I have both SMS Backup+ and MyBackup Pro, either of which will do it.

So Im back because i have this big problem.

My phone randomly froze and i had to take the battery out. Didn't do anything with it, it was just laying there.
When i rebooted it froze again so i decided to leave the sim out... not frozen.
Sim back in... freeze.
Sim out... everything fine (exept some lag).

I don't have a clue what is going on with it. I'm not even sure if it's the sim card.

UPDATE: i'm doing a nandroid restore now. It's still a phone so i like to use it as one.
Maybe i flash another rom later.
 
Did you wipe everything before flashing and did you restore any system app data with TitaniumBackup?

Answers should be yes and no. Try wiping and reflashing.

Yes i did wipe everything and no I didn't restore any system apps. Only 'simple apps' like angry birds and stuff.

Today i flashed the same leedroid rom again and it worked for a while just until someone tried to call me and i didn't receive the call (he called me on my other phone to say he called)
After that i tried to call someone else and then my phone froze up again.

Since it's quite annoying not being able to call with a phone:rolleyes:, I'm now back on my rooted stock rom via nandroid backup and everything works fine again.

I think i'll better search for another sense rom then.

I just installed ginger villain 2.8 and it's worked really smooth, i can call, use the sms app but my wifi didn't work here (it keeps losing the connection) so i think it's a radio problem and since I'm not willing to flash a new radio (i heard it's the most dangerous flash you can do to your phone) i will just use my rooted stock rom for now.

it's ok if you leave it to do it's own thing. I'm led to believe the actual flash is very quick, but the phone reboots a couple of times before it boots back into android. Cant actually confirm this as i've been too chickenshit to try myself, although i've never needed to change my radio for anything.:D

So it's not only me being chicken:D.

Just installed F1 Gingerbread V3 (not redux 1.2 sry) (couldn't leave it:rolleyes:) and i can call, use wifi, texting is ok but one major thing that is missing... NO FM RADIO:eek:...:p

Since it's for testing only, no big deal. So now i know that my sim card is ok (so it wasn't me mr leedroid 2.5 rom;)) and my radio is just fine( yeah thats to mr ginger villain 2.8 rom).

Omg, i made a huge mistake. I installed F1 Gingerbread V3 instead of redux 1.2:o:o. I had both of them on my sd card, must have misclicked or something.

You could try Leedroid HD version,

For A2SD version - No S-Off,
For Data++ version - Needs S-Off
 
Not sure if you only want a sense ROM... BUT..

I flashed Oxygen 2.2.1 a few days back and am really starting to like it.
Everything seems to work, good battery life and pretty fast..:)

Thanks, i figured that out when i was browsing trough all the possible roms.
Now i'm still using oxygen 2.1.6 and it works great.
I even get 2 days and 20 hours of batterylife with this rom:D.

And i also installed launcher pro so i have my 7 homescreens and if i buy the plus version i would even get my sense widgets back but i'm not really missing them.

I won't try any more leedroid roms because it freezes all the time. I also tried the gb version, but it didn't want to install at all. Plus the fact that leedroid hd probably wouldn't give me over 2 days of batterylife.
