Root s-off on the way

Awesome!!

I'll be getting my M8 probably Monday or Tuesday. It'd be awesome to get the phone and have S-off available right away. :D

So the boot loader says locked and soff. If you still have to unlock via HTC then soff is useless.
So to speak...

You will not need htcdev

Once S-off is achieved, the bootloader can be edited to do whatever you want.

Regaw Leinad has a bootloader customizer for the LTEvo. My last bootloader said "Splendid!!" at the top instead of "Unlocked". :p

mine should be "available" on the 11th  dont know if that means i can go into a store and buy it,or if i can pre order it. but at any rate, now that s off is on the horizons it became a bunch harder to wait for :D

cool to see youre getting one too

sorry for the short answer earlier,i was on my phone and supposed to be grocery shopping :o

as granite said, you can do lots of cool stuff when s off, from modifying hboot to changing your splash image to downgrading firmware.

there is a flag in a different partition that tells hboot wether to be unlocked or not. once you are s off, this flag is easily changed with adb letting you lock or unlock quickly and easily without htcdev, and with out the associated factory reset.

with vzw,a temp root is always needed, since big red keeps their devices off the official unlock list. in this case, you can gain s off then lock and unlock without ever submitting your personal info to htc.

with other models,as long as the temp root is working,we should have that some luxury. otherwise, the rest of us will have to use htcdev... at least once to get root for the exploit to work.

recoveries, splash images, etc. are all all easily flashed with a locked bootloader as long as the device is s off,so being unlocked is by no means needed.
