Help S11 volume problem

I've just taken delivery of my s11 and while some things seem a world better than the Hero, others seem a bit crappy.
My main concern for now though is the notification volume.
Its either off and on vibrate or it's deafening.
Its a custom ringtone.
I've obviously hit the volume control but it makes no difference at all. Either off or dead loud.
Have I missed something simple?

Try...

Menu > Settings > Sound, and in the General section, > Volume.

Here you can change the settings for all volumes on the phone, including Notifications.

Cheers for that. So where on the slider do I put it if i want to be able to vary the vol with the side button?

The volume buttons will only control the ringer, loudspeaker and media volume as far as I know.
