Help S2 dead?

I have a Galaxy S2, not rooted. Today I was using it to browse facebook, not downloading anything (to my knowledge, although I have a few apps that update automatically - all are from the marketplace). I went to the kitchen for 5 minutes to make a cup of tea and when I came back my phone had turned itself off - I couldn't boot it so I removed the battery and replaced it. The phone started to boot but got stuck on the Samsung screen. I removed the battery again and it can't even attempt to turn on since then.

If I plug it into a charger it gets hot near the battery. I tried a friend's working S2 battery and it wouldn't turn on. I've tried taking the battery out and trying to power on while plugged in, but that doesn't work either.

I've tried downloading the USB drivers and Kies and connecting to my laptop by USB but it doesn't appear in my devices, although again the phone does get hot while connected.

I can't get into recovery/boot mode by pressing the volume up, home and power keys.

So is my phone completely dead, or am I missing anything else I could try?

I'm sorry to say that it doesn't sound good. :(

If you purchased it less than two years ago it will still be under warranty, so I advise contacting Samsung UK for advice on repair.

I have exactly the same problem. Happened 2 days ago.
Lately it was working with a little lag. I was using waze, then turned off waze, put in my pocket, took out to turn the waze back on and it was off - cannot turn on since then.
It heats near camera when put on charge (wall socket, computer, car charger) but nothing else happens.

Unfortunately, I purchased it in USA as unlocked international version but now I'm in EU so I can't send it to warranty.

Is there any possible way to bring it back to life?
