Help S2 Heat abd Battery Issues

I have a heating issue on my phone has been happening for a while, but only lately has become very consistent.

Whenever I'm at school, I feel my phone get very very hot inside of my pocket. However, so far, I only noticed it in 3 of my classes. The phone becomes very hot, and is very uncomfortable against my leg. As a result, the battery also drains. In one class perios, which is about 50 minutes, my phone will lose 20 percent battery without being in use.

When I leave to school in the morning, my battery percentage is at 100. And when I'm done with school 7 hours later, it's at about 5 percent. It is very irritating, and because of it I have to carry around an external battery pack in my backpack.

Interestingly, however, this only happens at school. I have never experienced this issue at home.
Therefore, I believe it is due to reception issues. At school my phone struggles to get connection, and I think because of this it becomes really hot. Do you think this could be the problem? I would love to get any help I can.

You may be losing all kinds of signals inside the school causing the phone to go nuts searching for signal.

I have had an almost identical issue at a weekly meeting I have at a local hotel. It is literally the only place that it has happened throughout the entire DFW metroplex (at least those areas that I have been with the phone). And what's more, once I'm outside in the parking lot of the hotel, it stops.

Thought it was the Wifi being on but I turned it off a few weeks ago during the meeting and it still did it.

I still haven't pinpointed the cause.

@Midiman, I can understand that. But does it really require so much power from the phone just to search for signal? And is it even normal that a phone gets this hot?

Well, I think I may have figured out what the problem in my case is/was.

I used the Network Signal Info app (https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImRlLmFuZHJvaWQudGVsbmV0Il0.) and checked it while I was in the meeting room yesterday.

Turns out that there were several potential issues:

1) The signal in the hotel was not good - it dropped from LTE to 3G/HSPA+, and the signal strength was in the mid-20s to low-30s.

2) It showed that it was almost constantly either downloading or uploading (or both) data

3) It seemed to keep bouncing between Cell towers, as the Cell ID kept changing every 5-10 seconds.

Once again though, pretty much as soon as I stepped back into the parking lot everything was fine.

Guess I'll be using Airplane mode during the meetings on Tuesday...
