Help S2 keeps rebooting

Hi all,
I've got the same as Fastfazer. My S2 has been working great from beginning of october. Then after Kies asked me if I wanted to update to:

Android version 2.3.6
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK2-CL726411
Build number Gingerbread.XWKK2

the phone keeps asking me for a pincode whenever I pick it up. The rebooting is not constant but when I leave it alone for a couple of hours it has rebooted. I really dislike missing phonecalls because of a softwarerelease that Kies advises....

Anyone? pls?
 
My GS2 also gets rebooting a lot(I did not do any rooting), and once it reboots, it reboots a 3 or 4 times. It did not happen in the first month after I got it. This is the second month, and it kept happening. A few observation:
1) If I reset to factory defaults, it will be working fine for a while(sometimes one day, sometimes half day), and once I setup gmail, loaded up the apps(not a lot, only a few: netflix, CNN, MSNBC, touchpal, google voice, ABC news, the rest are the ATT pre-loaded), playing for half a day to one day, it will start rebooting again.
2)Once it reboots, it will cut off WIFI connection, I have to mannual re-connect WIFI.
3)Once the battery is below 20%, it tends to happen more often.

I highly suspect this is due to memories timing problem(physical defects in the memories), I sent it back to Samsung for checking, they only re-installed the software and claimed to have fixed the problem. After I got the phone, the second day I had the reboot again(after I setup gmail and loaded up the apps), I am sending them back to Samsung again, will update on what happen...

Looks like a lot of folks had similar problems with me, did anyone ever contact Samsung?
 
Ive had the galaxy s2 since november and every now and again it will turn it self off wether its on charge or sitting on my desk at work, its getting on my nerves, is there any help i can get to stop this, and also one of my pixels is damaged in my screen so im woundering if the handset its dodgy to begin with?
 
a few days ago i moved some apps to my external sd card and my phone started rebooting itself. i moved back some of them like isyncr and isyncr wi-fi and now the problem is gone.
 
I have the same problem as fastfazer and ninpoka.

Since I upgraded my brand new Galaxy S2 to Android 2.3.6 using Kies it tends to reboot on a regular basis (even when on the table). It's very anoying since I have to re-enter my PIN-code every time. I'm missing phone calls because of this!

Is there something wrong with this upgrade?

Did somebody find a work-around for this problem yet?

Hi there. My galaxy s2 restarted like 4-5 times a day. Sometimes when it rang i take it out of my pocket and on the way to my ear it dit a restart. Of coures that was realy anoying. So i after some weeks of getting mad at my phone i looked into some forums. And here i rad this quote. I took my phone and shaked it (not to hard) bam... restart. After 5 minutes i shaked it again. I dit the "move" to my ear (a bit faster as usual) and guess what. So i went into the menu and hooked off all "movements" thingi. (my settings are in german as i am luxemburgish). Just give it a try if nothing else works. I for now could throw it in the corner and it would not restart. I shaked it quit hard at the end.;)

Same problem here.
I think its something wrong with the 2.3.6 update, thinking about back in it down to another if this isn't fixed soon.
 
same here as the other guys. Having GS2 since September. Works great, no complains.
Few days ago I upgraded via KIES to 2.3.6 version and from there on, it start to reboot at random. Not often, say once every day or every two days... I don't play with it, it's on a table doing nothing, I just hear the boot Samsung sound playing....
 
Same problem here with boot looping, but it seems Skype and 2.3.6 are allergic to each other. I went back to the states for the Thanksgiving holiday and bought a prepaid T-mobile SIM card and the first thing the network wanted to do was upgrade the firmware so I thought great-make use of the faster connection while I'm here...since then it's been the blues. I've uninstalled Skype and that's reduced the number of times it reboots.
Yet, it still reboots asking for the SIM pin number every time.
It's annoying when at 3am you hear the start up melody from the phone as it sits on the nightstand...Argh!
Going back to the 2.3.5 firmware the S2 worked really great for me with it.
Zzzzzz....
 
Anyone figured how to resolve the reboot under 2.3.6

Updated 2 days ago. Yesterday was fine, but it rebooted twice today.

Removing Skype did the trick for me. I think it is a conflict with one or 2 applications installed.

Try removing each application starting with the most complex one.
 
yes had same problem rang samsung and asked to speak to a technician he gave me a code *2767*3855# to key into my galaxy s2 keypad have not had problem since three weeks not 1 reeboot just remember to back up your contacts etc as this will wipe your phone clean and seems to get rid of all the crap

That would mean all the settings and apps would be wiped too... won't it? Is there a way to clear the cache (read it might be an issue with the old 2.3.3 clashing) without resetting everything. I read the post saying something like that but it didn't mentioned specifically whether all the apps can be maintained, so not willing to try just yet.

Yes i did lose my apps but in my case settings remained the same and the technician also stated it could be reminence of the old firmware clashing with the new firmware i myself tried many other suggestions factory reset, 1 click clear from the market nothing worked except this i never had this problem until i updated to 2.3.6
 
Hi all,
I'm running an unrooted, vodafone branded 2.3.3 in Ireland and this just started happening to me last night. I feel it may be related to apps being stored on the sd card. I'm guessing this is the problem as it's the only thing I did this week with the phone was to move apps to the sd card. Just need now to get the phone to say on long enough to get them all moved back
 
Hello,, I faced this problem on my 5 months old Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100. Lately, it starts restarting itself for no reason, I don't use a protection case and I don't put it in my pocket. It reboots itself even when it is on a table. BUT! I have found the problem, some apps. I have uninstalled three apps and then, it stopped rebooting itself. These apps were: FreeSync, Let's Golf 3, SayHi. So if you are facing this rebooting problem, try to remove some apps, especially those with notification icons.
 
I had the same problem! Pulled the external SD and it stopped!
Turns out when an app said it could save to an SD card it was saving to EXTERNAL SD.

The Galaxy 2 has 14 gig of INTERNAL SD. Apps are supposed to copy to INTERNAL SD. Most of the android phone don't have an INTERNAL SD and external SD....sooo...I got all these ghost apps on the remove 8 gig sd chip that are supposed to be transferred to the internal somehow.

They need programmers to address what is INTERNAL and what is EXTERNAL SD.

Either the android OS or the various Apps need to address this...the GALAXY 2 is different.
 
I've had my SGS2 now since July and I have NEVER had this issue until I updated the phone to 2.3.6 last week (Baseband i9100XXKI4). Now it reboots 2 to 3 times a day. I don't think it's a loose battery issue otherwise it wouldn't switch itself back on. Tonight was the first time it rebooted itself in the middle of a phone call. The reboots happen whether its in my pocket or just sitting on the table. My brother in law's SGS2 is exactly the same now. He's reboots started AFTER updating to 2.3.6.

My wife's SGS2 is still on 2.3.3 (i9100XXKF3) and her phone has NEVER rebooted itself since she got it 2 months ago. How do I go back to her version.....??? And where can I find it?

I think the problem is that the new firmware is clashing with the remnants of the old firmware. Probably in some cache somewhere. The recommended method is to factory reset the phone. Unfortunately this also means all apps and settings would be reset, but your phone remains at 2.3.6

Its the reason I haven't went to that extent yet.
 
Mine has started doing the same thing, since I updated to 2.3.5

Before that never.

It was doing it about once a week, but did it twice this morning. It has only done it (that I am aware of) whilst lying stationary on a table!
 
How the get rid of the reboots:

The reason for the random reboots is this:

- happens after a firmware update
- happens because Samsung doesn't perform a ram-wipe before the update starts. Shame on you Samsung R&D :mad:
- so: after you've updated your phone, and all is fine right after the update, just shut down the phone.
- then: pull out the battery AND wait for a few minutes. This is important that the statical ram is really cleared.
- put battery back in & start the phone - now all is ok :-)

So all the stories about the paper underneeth the battery was ok because the battery has been removed ! Not because of the paper !
There just was something left in the memory because Samsung overlooked it :mad:
It isn't the apps either (tried that too).
 
Yeah, my galaxy s II has been occasionally rebooting itself for 3 weeks now. Most often after I shut down to charge for the night and then boot in morning. It will go through 4-5 reboots before it stabilizes itself. I've done 3 system "resets" or whatever they call going back and removing everything. AND THE IS there NO BACKUP OR TRANSFER WIZARD ON DROID! So it talks an hour to get all your icons back in place and email accounts setup.

I moved to android from Blackberry because it was supposed to be so much better. The wifi voice is actually pretty horrible compared to my old UMA blackberry wifi voice. People complain on the other end of my calls that I must have a cheap cell because it sounds so bad on the wifi (if I walk around..it's pretty good if I stand still on wifi voice)

The rebooting though is silly....a unix based OS should not fail so often.

I'm also not please that it doesn't have any sophisticated dial by voice for the car. It far more difficult to make calls while driving. With the blackberry I could talk into my headset what numbers I wanted dialed and it would do it. Android isn't that slick....it does have a lot of apps though.

Bloody @#@#$ It worked for couple of days and now it started rebooting itself 3 to 4 times a day.

SAAAAAAMSUUNG WHAT DID YOU DO ???
