Welcome to Android Forums!

Kies air over a local WiFi connection will give you an IP address plus a port something like this "HTTP://192.168.1.123:1234". Home routers firewalls work in basically two schemes, open all ports to outgoing traffic but block all incoming ports or block all ports for both incoming and outgoing except the most widely used ones (80:HTTP, 110:POP, 25:SMTP, 21:FTP, etc.)

The other thing to look at are the security settings on your desktop browser. If you are using medium-high security settings, it may be blindly blocking active content. I'm not sure if Kies air requires active content, but it would be a reason why it's not working if it did.
