It's caused by the kludge workaround to use sd cards with the latest Android versions. I don't think that getting a new phone will correct the issue unfortunately.
There are a lot of bad SD cards out there. They go bad in all kinds of devices and in every type of cell phone, camera etc.
Well, I'm on my THIRD -- and the first two BOTH fried their SD cards. Different make and model cards, both from reputable sources (not cheap junk bought on eBay). So, I'm batting a 2/3 failure rate on S3s -- and of all the smartphones I've owned (and that has been several), the S3 is the ONLY phone that has trashed SD cards. So, YES, it does have an issue with SD cards. The S3 doesn't have any particular issue with SD cards.
While they are certainly NOT as reliable as other storage media, once again, the ONLY portable device I have owned that has problems with SD cards is the S3.They suck for reliability in general across the board.
That's like saying if my car's engine keeps stalling out on the way home from work, then take the bus! NOT a way to address solving the problem -- just an way of ignoring it.Consider going with cloud storage.
And just to add i know quite a few other s3 owners all with sd cards an none have had a problem
