Help S3 burnt my memory card

two week old S3 and it wiped my 32 g sd card. cant find out why and samsung dont know either. replacement phone on the way but lost all pictues:mad::mad:
 
although i dont have an answer for you maybe someone over in the s3 forums might. Post moved there.

Sorry ... but same thing happened to me -- twice! I'm on the third SG3 now, and I'm getting filesystem error messages.

I've said it before -- this phone is junk.
 
It's caused by the kludge workaround to use sd cards with the latest Android versions. I don't think that getting a new phone will correct the issue unfortunately.

WOW -- that could go a long way to explaining why HTC, among others, appears to be abandoning external SD cards in their new phones.
 
There are a lot of bad SD cards out there. They go bad in all kinds of devices and in every type of cell phone, camera etc. The S3 doesn't have any particular issue with SD cards. They suck for reliability in general across the board.

Consider going with cloud storage.
 
I have the note 2 and burned through a SanDisk 32gb SD card. Went back to the 16gb from my s3 and so far no problems. Seems like maybe a SanDisk problem.
 
I had a 32GB Lexar fail in my S3 after 3 weeks. I put in a 16GB Patriot and it has been fine for a few months now..

This is true -- SD card failure is not LIMITED to the S3. Although, personally, while I've had them fail on PCs (probably due to a lot of insertion and removal that eventually wears out the contacts), I've NOT had them fail in any of my cameras or other phones -- just the S3.

The S3 doesn't have any particular issue with SD cards.

Well, I'm on my THIRD -- and the first two BOTH fried their SD cards. Different make and model cards, both from reputable sources (not cheap junk bought on eBay). So, I'm batting a 2/3 failure rate on S3s -- and of all the smartphones I've owned (and that has been several), the S3 is the ONLY phone that has trashed SD cards. So, YES, it does have an issue with SD cards.

Is it ALONE in that, probably not -- but to deny it even HAS an SD card problem is to call everyone who has reported such a problem here and on other forums -- liars. And that is simply wrong to do that.

They suck for reliability in general across the board.

While they are certainly NOT as reliable as other storage media, once again, the ONLY portable device I have owned that has problems with SD cards is the S3.

That's like saying if my car's engine keeps stalling out on the way home from work, then take the bus! NOT a way to address solving the problem -- just an way of ignoring it.
 
ive had a 32gb sandisk in mine for months always using it to put movies music on etc not a problem i wonder if the problem is to do with what class sd cards people are using

The DEBATE is not about how BIG the problem happens to be. I have asserted time and time again that most likely, it is a very small percentage of folks that have this problem. So, you could know THOUSANDS of folks that do NOT have this problem. And if my guess about the low percentage is anywhere near correct, there are MILLIONS of folks that do not have this problem.

The fact that many folks do NOT have this SD card problem is not the issue. The issue is that SOME of us DO have this problem -- and the numbers are growing every day. We're NOT liars, we're not bashing Samsung -- we're just reporting a problem that DOES actually exist.

Some folks are reporting that their S3s are now lagging since the JB update. Mine is NOT -- but I'm not coming here and telling them that I know lots of folks whose phones are NOT lagging; instead, I'm just grateful that my phone is NOT encountering that problem.
 
im currently using a transcend 32gb class IV for about 6 months now and not had a single issue so far was considering upgrading to a 64 gb but after reading all the threads im not sure if i should.
 
I too lost everything on my sd card. About a month ago, I started getting a message stating the card needed to be formatted. I copied all of the photos from the card to my pc (I used a micro card adapter). Then one day, I discovered all of the photos on the sd card were gone. I copied them from the pc back to the sd card. No issues until about three days ago. I started getting the formatting message again. I rebooted the phone and the issue seemed solved. Well, today, I opened my gallery, and all of the photos are gone again. I am upset because I know some of them I have taken in the last month are gone for good as I haven't backed them up.

I am using a Samsung 16gb card which came with my old phone (Fascinate). I popped it out of the old phone and into the new one back in July when I received my GS3, and it worked flawlessly until about a month ago.

The card is not fried, my pc can read it and copy to it fine...the issue is that the phone wipes it clean on a whim.

Suggestions? Advice? Thanks.
 
for keeping your pics i recommend you install dropbox and setup the upload feature it will automatically upload any new pics/videos to dropbox which can be viewed online on their site or if you setup a sync folder directly on your pc. For example you create a folder D:\Dropbox, all new pics taken on your phone will be automatically uploaded to that folder.
