This has happen few weeks back 1 or 2 just one time or two ...

But now today is doing it every second as soon as i unlock the S3 (sprint)
the turn off option appear(when you long press power button) the only problem is im not long pressing it im not even touching it ...
So I decided take off the battery turn it on did it again....

So once again i take out the battery when i turn it back on and when i feel like its about to shut off I put it in airplane mode and turn off network and everything its fine...when I turn airplane mode off and network it does it...

reason I do this is because I feel that my phone is infected ...idk with what plus I have lookout but idk ...

any advice? beside restting I cant reset at the moment...

Since it doesn't do it in airplane mode that rules out the power button I'd say. If it's shutting off completely, as in not a random reboot, there is a good possibility it's a hard-ware problem. If you can't factory reset try uninstalling every app that you can, but honestly it sounds like a factory reset would be your best bet. Then you'll know right away if it's a hard-ware issue.

You could try removing the battery, cleaning the battery contacts and then putting it back in and start it again.

Okay i did a reset and well, it stop but sometimes it shuts off... Like it literally opens the shut phone off windows and it turns itself off...lol literally..is not the battery because i used different ones and I cannot got to recovery window...

I thought it was the sudden death sydrome but i dont know my software is 4.1 which was the fixed...

It isnt the sudden death but i have no idea whats causing that. Its pretty freaky sounding man...

I must be infected with something I did several scans with lookout but my phone is clean.. My phone works right now but it sometimes does it...I just need it to last long enough for my upgrade in february

Have you tried reflashing your firmware on Odin? Though I don't know if it'll work on your phone, nor would I recommend it without being sure it won't mess anything up.

My Galaxy S3 is just 1 year old (till Sept) and since last month (oct), it started to have problem of powering itself off random, without my knowledge. I never dies while I am using it. Mostly when I pick up the phone, I found it was off. At the beginning, once a few days, but last 2 days, it powered off once a day.
It is a rooted phone, but never had problem before. I think I updated to 4.1.2 this July.
I did a factory reset and a full reset (reformatted) as well. But today, I powered off again.

Is it a hardware issue or it will be fixed in the next update?

One thing you can try is to power it off and remove the battery and check the battery contacts. Sometimes the contacts shift a bit and dust or debris can cause the power to cut off. Give that a try and see if it continues to auto shut off. I had an older phone that did this once in a while. When I remove the battery and reseat it, the problem goes away.

This is what mine is doing. When I catch it, it looks like a ghost is operating it. It looks like someone is holding down the power button to get the power menu and then it powers off.

I think it is related to networking (switching between wifi and 3/4g) but possibly some dirty connection on the power button.

I see that you reset yours to factory.

I have a couple of questions for you.

Was it rooted?
Were you using tasker?

i am having this issue as well, but its a little different..

so my s3 randomly shuts off, no power menu prior to. it seemed it happened at certain jolts or bumps but im not so sure, it was doing the shut off mainly in my pocket, then did it in my hand. had the 3.5mm jack in playing tunein. i tapped it gently and boom it died. i reset the battery and it was good a few weeks, the last few days it shut off randomly, and today when i went to start it back up it froze during boot, and got stuck at the cyanogen boot screen. battery pull fixed this, i am currently copying the contents of the sd to the pphone so i can pull it out to test.

one thing i have confirmed is that the phone began this right after the cm10.1.3 rc.

i reinstalled the stock rom to test but the phone will not connect to network with touchwiz. so i had to put cm back on.

this phone went through hell...

i flashed it to virgin from sprint, and i had a real hard time setting it all up, reflash after reflash, data experimenting the whole shibang.

all i can say is that the phone works great other than the shut off and now a freeze issue. never freezes other than stated everything works besides 4g, mms and voicemail, all from flash.

any help would be great
