Help s3mini battery drain

BillyBoo

Newbie
Hi has anybody any ideas on why my s3 mini uses battery like there is no tomorrow. I charged it before work and less than 24 hours later its down to 40% and I only checked it a couple of times. I have the widget for task manager on screen so I can stop any apps. The battery use says its and is 35%, device idle 25%, cell standby 22%, screen 13% and a couple of other system things arpt 2 & 3%. Any ideas.

Any progress with this?

I've sent mine back to Vodafone (UK) as the battery was down to 14% after 14hrs with very little use. Get a new one next week ... will see how it goes.

Mine was the NFC version with android 4.1.2 ... a friend has an earlier (non NFC?) but with 4.1.1 and gets much better battery life - easily lasts more than 24hrs.

The forums on XDA are much more active - though no one seems to be reporting problems.

Hey jbainbridge, I upgraded to a Galaxy s3 mini 4 weeks ago. Mine is also the NFC android 4.1.2 version & I don't have a battery drain problem, I once managed to make my phone last 5 days on light use!

5 days! ... you can use it you know ;). I'd be happy with something left at the end of a long day.

Hopefully the new one will arrive this week - we'll see.

Anyway, thanks for your comment - it shows the battery is pretty good.

When I first had the phone I charged till 100% before I switch it on, then after that I let discharge till it get till about 5% & after that I recharge the phone switched on until I see a green 100% icon in the status bar.

In the 5 days of light use that included texting, a few calls, a bit of browsing & Facebook, the odd 5-10 blast on Angry Birds ect & playing music.

I tend to only have the wi-fi & mobile data on whenever I need to use it because keeping it on is known to drain battery on most smartphones!

JBainbridge, did the new one arrive? Did the battery fare better on the new one?

Cheers

Depends on your usage. Maybe you're connected to internet the whole time? My battery drains like that if I am connected to the internet, but in night mode, it only drains 3% over 7hrs.

Sorry, no. Vodafone cocked up the replacement and then wouldn't honour the deal I'd got from retentions.

I've actually ended up with a S2 ... which seems to be a good compromise as it runs Jelly Bean and has a screen that seems the right size. Couldn't quite justify the cost of the full S3.

I do wonder if it was my Exchange account that caused the power drain ... I'll just never know.:)

The problem with the s2 is that its at the end of its 2yr official support cycle, so unlikely to get updates.

Fair enough ... though at some point I'll move onto Cyanogenmod ... which should keep me going for a while.

Its disappointing that Samsung aren't planning to release Key Lime Pie for the S3Mini given that it is quite new ... though maybe that will change?!

My battery drained from 100% to 53% overnight, mobile data & wifi off. any ideas?

How old is the phone? Weeks or months? Anything left running? Check the battery usage stats.

That amount of battery drain overnight is about equal to mine, bit difference is I leave mobile data on with just a battery saver, so there should have been a bigger difference, you should have lost less.

android os 41%
screen 15%
phone 12% 2 messages, 3 calls total 4 mins
android system 11%
maps 6%

this is after 16 hrs battery at 17% from full

I did notice google music kept running in the background so I cleared data, uninstalled updates and forced close. Hasnt started itself since.
