I miss the fm radio on this handset! My question; is the radio hardware or software? I mean, can it be in a future update, or can it never be in the S4?

Requires both and so far as I've seen, the hardware isn't included.

AT&T, on their product page, say that the S4 has a FM radio, "Requires use of headphones"..

can some one with an ATT version confirm that that is the case?

Nope.

Btw - nothing personal - but I just realized that we had 5 short threads on this same subject, so I've merged them for easier access.

Bottom line to date - NO FM radio on either version of the SGS4.

Has anyone actually tried a radio app on the S4? I read in another forum that the LTE model had the hardware for FM radio, but nobody knew if the hardware had been wired in.

Hope it works. I read somewhere a while back that someone found references to radio commands in the S4 files.

I tried it just to put an end to the subject....there is no hardware for an fm radio, so it will not work! Otherwise they would have given us the app to use it! Samsung ain't stupid enough to give hardware and not use it!

I decided to work around that issue and got a BT headset with the FM radio in it. Picked up the Sony-Ericsson Smart Wireless Headset (MW1). There is the MW-600 also.

I just wish Sony would release an app for Android to control the radio from the phone, much like they did with the Sony-Ericsson Aino and it's bundled MH-100 headset. Be even better if they used the same API as on the MH-100 so that my old MH-100 headset's radio can be used again since that headset as long outlasted the Aino.
