S4 For Metro?

yes, metro is changing to gsm and their phones will be compatible with tmo's hspa network and lte network and as you probably no tmo currently sells the nexus 4

buying teh n4 from tmo is teh worst thing you can do.

20 down and 17 a month for 24 months

comes to a grand total of 428 for a 350 dollar device.

who said it was a flagship device? Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Galaxy S3 Mini comparison review - PC Advisor

or does no one remember the indulge was the crappy little brother of the epic 4g?

so you are basing this all off the fcc filings which lists the model number SCH-R970, note there isnt a carrier tag at the end like there was with the SCH-R530U/C/M so this is a special model. this is where we first heard about it.

Source: Samsung Galaxy S 4 hits the FCC in MetroPCS and Sprint forms

here we have a benchmark leading to the creditably of engadget (something they desperately need)

surely anything scoring that high would have to be a sgs4 (especially the android version and clock speed...)

so a quick search of the SCH-R970 and look at this...

now i know what yall are thinking, "damn shabby you think you are so smart but you are just a #^$%@ing idiot, we would have a device just like the us cellular variant." True! if teh cricket variant didnt have a different model number as well and there was carrier labels involved

add that with the fact that there still has been no single shred of proof that i have seen that metropcs will be getting it, samsung has all the other carriers listed. kernel source came out and all the variants are there except one jf_mtr_defconfig (as in they dont have one).

so there you have it.

If you right now search that model number, it gives you the U.S. Cellular version the the S4

Perhaps you missed the subsequent post where the Shabbmeister had Newer Info that DID verify the S4 coming to Metro....

well to be fair, his post only talks about the model number, and ours will have a different number. "SCH-####" is for vzw/cri/usc/metro, SPH- is for sprint, SGH is for att/tmo.

since the metropcs sgs4 will be a gsm rebrand of the tmo one, i would suspect it to be similar to theirs (SGH-M919) since normally they have SGH-T### devices and this is the first SGH-M### device tmobile has had.

As of june 1st 2013 Metropcs is having a new Promotion Bring your own unlocked GSM phone for service Metropcs now has simcards which say metropcs but uses tmobile

Yes it has been discussed thanks for confirming :) Merged to the metropcs subforum. please continue discussion here. :)

Question regarding this. If Metro is going to allow unlocked GSM phones for Metro service what version of the Note 2 would work? Any unlocked or GSM version with LTE? And would that also mean LTE would work on Metros network? I was thinking about getting the S4 again, but my mother in law just got the Note 2 for Verizon and I must say it is one awesome phone!! For example would this one work?

That would give you very spotty HSPA coverage since it only matches tmobiles newly refarmed 1900MHz band. Always look for the 1700/2100 band on the phones to be used on tmobile

I don't think they are going to allow unlocked devices on their network it's plausible since they are with tmobile I don't want u guys to start thinking just cuz metro is launching their first gsm phone that ya should be able to get any unlocked gsm phone and use it on metro. But anyways we shall see what happens soon I'm excited myself.

If they dont they would be stupid, most prepaid these days allow byod and if metro does not they will lose customers.:p
And not to tmo which is what I think your getting at.

I would say NOT any significant amount of customers.

The average Metro customer couldn't give a frosted bat crap about locked or unlocked phones. Probably 90+% of them don't even know what unlocked IS.

i would say you are correct in that they dont know or care about the terms or how it works, but look at how many people still try to do the metro flash program because they dont want to have to buy another phone. if metropcs is suddenly like hey bring your unlocked att/tmobile device and you can use it so many others will be confused when they find out theirs isnt unlocked or whatever

This is it exactly, they will want to run the phone they already have, and anyone with a gsm phone, one with sim card, will not be happy to have to buy another.

They would just go with straight talk/net10 etc.

OK. How about this one?
BANDS 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600
The international version does not have wcdma on the 1700/1900.
Only the tmobile one does.

This one you linked to has LTE and it might, though I dont know, have LTE on the 1700 band and if so it will pick up lte Also even if you dont find a phone that used AWS the refarming project has hit many cities so your city may be covered. Though I dont know if the speeds are slower.

I would look to get

The S3 dropped to $350 at the Metro site. Hopefully they made this change because of the S4.

Which begets the $350 question?

Are they going to bring in a S3 with a GSM reddyoh or just keep the CDMA current one?

If so, will they still keep the reduced price on the GSM model?

I am not so likely to pony up even $350 for a S3 unless I get a much better idea how long CDMA will be usable on Metro.

[EDIT] Damn I wish people would read before they post stuff that's wrngh.

The S3 HASN'T been dropped to $350 UNLESS you already have an account and are buying it to Add Another Line to your account. There IS a $100 instant "rebate" but the last $50 is only a "rebate" on the added extree line. In Bishop's defense though, I think it's sleezy deception on Metro's part to call the added extree line deal a "rebate". (You have to click all the way through to the actual "rebate" form to see what the Real Deal is.) So, the actual new and improved price for most everyone is $400 + tax and activation.

[EDIT][EDIT] :D I just asked on Metro's Faceplant IF the S3 for Metro will Ever be getting a GSM reddyoh and if so, if they have an idea of when. Will report back if I hear anything from them.

[EDIT Pi] FWIW, even after 2 back and forths with them on Faceplant, Metro simply Will Not address whether or not their S3 will get a GSM reddyoh. All they keep repeating is "You'll be just fine, everything will still work fine, this is a recording, blah, blah." If I had to translate that, I'd say it means no Metro GSM S3 or they would have said so I think.

Just my luck. Just paid 450 less than a month ago. Oh well.

If it's less than a month ago, you might consider becoming a persistent but calm and polite burning bag-o-dog-poo on Metro's Faceplant page about it. I'd ask for a months comped service. The same thing happened to me with the Motion back in Jan and they fixed me up for a month. That lessoned the pain somewhat.

Ya can't get what ya don't ask for. :smokingsomb:

Ooops, yeah I did miss that. I'm actually waiting on the S4, when I saw the price change on the S3, I didn't bother to look too much into it as I'm not going to purchase that phone. The price drop stood out because I thought it could mean they were bringing down the price to have a bigger price difference between that one and the potential S4 to Metropcs. Thanks for the clarification though to those looking into getting the S3.
