S7 Edge Random Restarts

Got a replacement from Amazon, restored all apps and settings, updated to latest firmware (same as that which was crashing) and so far (touch wood) it's been absolutely fine...

Yeah, but it would take me a day or two to restore all the apps and settings. The backup process doesn't actually work unless your phone config is just trivia. For example app config is all lost. There is no backup for the whole phone, unlike with IOS on which (most) app config gets restored. Only with a rooted phone can you backup app config (using e.g. Titanium Backup).

What I have found, on the S6 and S7, over a couple of years, is that when you get an OS update you get repeated crashes, and then after a day or so it stops. Usually the good behaviour concides with various apps having got updated shortly after the OS update ;)

Today my phone has been fine. But I did remove and re-insert the SD card, just in case the contact was bad (while the phone was totally OFF of course).

Yeah, it's a pain but I guess I was used to it from playing with custom ROMs on previous devices. I do think it could well be SD card related, maybe I just got a better connection with the new phone but only time will tell if I'm fixed for good.

Good luck!

I haven't rooted my S7 yet. There are some issues reported with it, and anyway Samsung is still doing OTA updates - presumably bug fixes since I see nothing on the phone changing. I will need to root it eventually to get e.g. APPS2SD to work properly on the folder mount feature (making apps use the SD card when they have no config for it). Then a full backup will be possible. Restore the desktop with Nova backup and restore everything else with Titanium.

Hi, I’m from Ecuador. I had the same problem in my S7 G930F, my firmware was TTT (Trinidad and Tobago). the problem begun around august actualization. One day my S7 did turn off suddenly, it was the first time it happened to me since May 26th when I buyed it, I never had a freeze or unwanted reboots until then. I waited that next month actualization fix the problem, but the problem didn’t go.

Sometimes my S7 had rebooted many times in less than ten minutes, these reboots had caused problem in recognizing my sdcard, but ironically a reboot used to fix the the problem with th sd card.

Since then, sometimes my phone worked fine for 24 hours without freezes or reboots, but the problem did repeat again, and my phone become faulty for at least 3 or 4 hours.

Since last actualization in October 25th the problem got worst, and my phone did reboot itself every minute! It did turn very hot. Then I used Odin to flash the firmware and make a Factory Reset, but it didn’t work, I tried to flash a PHE firmware from Spain, but I didn’t have a good result.

So I got very worried about it, I believed that there was a possibility that the problem is in the hardware and not in the software.

Then I read in Sammobile.com that there is a beta Nougat firmware, I downloaded and flashed it on Tuesday morning, since then my phone didn’t reboot, freeze or got very hot. The battery lasts same or more than before the problem happens. And the Nougat interface is very pretty, I like it a much, in my opinion is best than Android Marshmallow.

These are good news, it’s a software trouble and I think that next firmware actualizations will fix the problem.
I’m very happy using this Nougat beta, so I will use it until the official Nougat update rolls out.

I recommend use the Nougat beta.

Build number: MMB29K.G935FXXU1BPJE

CSC: G935FBTU1BPJ2
RF Cal: 20160722
HW Rev:MP 0.801

Stock firmware (although I'm sooooo tempted to try a custom ROM but not too many around for the S7 Edge that's worth trying).

Mine was fine for the first 3 weeks, I took an update and a few since and since the first update, coincidental or not, it either locks up or more often (between 0-6 times a day) reboots.

I've had it on debug and running logcat waiting to see if there's any exception when it happens but no, just freezes and reboots, nothing at all logged. It can be on charge or not, makes no difference. Sometimes occurs when apps are being installed so wondered if it's an SD card issue - is anyone having the issue with no SD card installed? I left the card out for a day and had no crashes but can't be sure that's the 'cause'.

Thanks

If your only problem is just having app2sd working as your reason to get root, just activate adoptable storage. You don't need rood and it's built into the system. Samsung never removed the feature. They just hid the switch to activate it.
