Sadly, I returned my A500

Today was the last day for me to return and I feel as though I had no choice. The product was great and i didnt have any of the glitches or bugs that others had.

But without a working recovery and no sight of unlocking the bootloader, I couldn't see spending $450 on a device that may never be updated.

If Acer releases the source code or makes a statement about updates, I will gladly purchase again. Otherwise ill wait til june and see what Samsung has to offer.

Hope you all enjoy yours.

And I think I'm going to pick up a nook color. I'm not sure HC is ready yet and a rooted nook color will suit me well til I see some major improvements with HC.

I mean a brand new device with the specs that these tabs are built with shouldn't lag.

Ironic, since I bought another one to replace one that seemed to have a wifi issue. All I need is root for Titanium and the NTFS patch. I am almost completely happy with the interface, but wish HC allowed a hide option for the navigation buttons, or allow them to be placed on top.

I had no lag issues that are not par for Android or even iOS, since I mess with the iPad 2 a lot.

Added:

The closest thing to the same connectivity will be the Toshiba, but more expensive and has been delayed until late summer.

Why are you assuming the Acer Tablet will not get Honeycomb updates as they become available? Like 3.1 in the near future..

I know its only been out a little over 2 weeks, but they have made no indication that they would be. When people have called they were of no help and insisted the device must be sent to them if its locked. So they are saying their is no way for the consumer to reinstall the software.

I'm sure they will do the updates, just that other manufacturers have dragged their feet with it and with a locked bootloader I rather wait for them to release the updates or crack the bootloader.

But for now I am very happy with what my rooted nook color can do at almost half the price.

The nook color is a huge step down in my opinion. Not to belittle your choice, especially when I thought about doing the same thing before I got my Iconia, but to me even the rooted NC seems like a toy that came from toys r us for some reason compared to the Iconia. And as for updates, Acer just came out with this. Updates will come. I doubt they would fumble the ball after putting together such a great device and doing it far ahead of others - even the Xoom. The Xoom was and still is in my opinion an unfinished device.

Your right it is a huge step down as it lacks a lot of features that a full tablet should have, but it runs super smooth with CM7. Its prefect for checking email, browsing the net, ans watch videos via TV shows stream. Problem is it seems android is still not using the full potential of the dual cores and manufacturers are set to release tegra 3 and quad cores in the next 8-12 months.

Once HC is more stable and there are more HC apps, I will buy a tablet. But the nook will hold me over until the next Gen on android tablets are released. I also see great things for running ice cream sandwich on the Nook.

Don't get me wrong anyone who asks me about the Iconia I tell them its an awesome tablet, I just don't think I was ready for the issues with HC. If there was a way to flash GB to the tablet and use that with all the features the Acer provided until HC is more stable, I'd buy it and return my nook for sure.

You guys are aware that the A500 has been rooted aren't you? Very easy to do even for a complete novice like myself.

I'll be keeping mine. I just hope somebody figures out a way to tether a blackberry to it.

Yeah I'm aware, but having root and being able to crack the bootloader and get recovery are very different. Last time I checked little progress was made on this, but I hope they (the dev's) can do it.

After the number of Android devices that either arent updated or updated at a very slow pace, you would think people would be more wary in assuming a device would be updated, especially when it's a company's first Android device. And just because Google has kept an tight leash on HC doesn't mean they required everyone who got it to update it when new versions come along, which I think some people, including me, assumed.

Sad to say also, I returned mine today. I did not want to be at the mercy of Acer. We have only one sure update from them, the 1080p one. The tab has a few more issues that needs fixing i.e-wifi, screen on, GPS.... Something that just started happening with me was when I tap in the market an app on my destop would open. Also Acer has no deticated webpage for the iconia, unlike Toshiba and Samsung, just a dry static page.
