Root Safe apps to remove [bloatware] Record Keeping/Fixes

Ære

Android Enthusiast
I've removed a few bloatware that was preinstalled on the device no issues yet, but I've seen a few people post some issues with removing bloatware. ..so..

IF anyone as removed any apps and have noticed other apps/features/hardware not working correctly or at all can you post them here so we have a record of what not to remove yet, 'til there's a fix or work around.

Thanks. :D

so i did it, i rooted my phone(good bye warranty).

now its time to get rid of this bloatware but im not gonna remove a thing until i see a full list of stuff that is safe to remove.

Never remove LG Home or Metro Web. Your ROM must have a launcher integrated and the market requires the browser to work. I suggest at least making a backup of every app before you remove it. That way you can get back to an unrooted state if necessary for warranty issues.

oh dang, i did remove metroweb, but i have dolphin browser installed.

im getting a message everytime i download an app that about something missing the process stopped and i hae the option to force stop. the app installs afterward and im able to use it just fine but i just find this odd.

it says : process android.process.media stopped unexpectedly. please try again

still, i hit force close, go to the new app and its there and runs fine.

update: i saw that i did make a backup of metroweb "metroweb_2.3.6.apk" but when i go to install it wont let me. im using rom toolbox pro and when i click to install it say something like rom toolbox stopped working.

Hey W, I did the same thing. You can do a factory restore by following these steps. No more force close from market, make sure not to uninstall metroweb again.

Glad you got it fixed that fast. There were people with the Optimus M that had to wait a while before someone figured it out.

Now the reason that you do not want to remove it. It is not a Metro app. It is the official Android browser that is an integral part of the OS that should never be removed. It is only branded MetroPCS because Google lets the providers do that. The Market cannot function properly with it gone. Another browser cannot take its place for that.

I'm thinking about uninstalling my lg keyboard as it uses a big chunk of my battery. is that safe to uninstall?

I just downloaded and installed the gingerbread keyboard.

If your keyboard drains the battery like mine, then you would not need to remove it. Try this: switch to the Ginger keyboard, turn the phone off, charge for a few minutes, re-start it, and watch the apps using power. It should not show up anymore. If it does, then I suggest freezing it with Titanium at the most. I have not really heard of anyone removing a stock keyboard before since it is usually not a problem. I have no idea if removing will cause problems.

Just wondering, but is there a way to freeze apps without purchasing a specific app? I'm torn between the pro version of titanium backup and rom toolbox. Looks like they both do what I want.

Titanium was the best app I have ever purchased. It is well worth the small amount. Plus, supporting developers like that keeps them going so that they continue to improve their products and support future phone models.

These are the ones I have frozen (I hope this works):

Wow, you really went for bust huh? I don't personally think you needed to freeze that much, but it is your phone not mine. Typically you would want to freeze the apps that often load themselves and use battery or give annoying notifications. For example, I am not sure why you froze Gallery and Polaris Office. Gallery is a stock Google app and you "could" see problems freezing it. Polaris Office is a free office productivity app, which could be useful.

Hey guys has anyone figured out what is killing the battery in these LG Connect phones? I can start the day with a 100% charge and not even start any apps and about 5-6 hours later I only have like a 20% charge left. If I start the GPS or Wi-Fi it will finish my battery off. My phone is brand new and I just rooted it the other day. I don't know if rooting it has anything to do with the battery draining so fast because I rooted it like 2 days after I bought it. But Jesus how can they put out batteries like this that won't even last all day. I have to charge it everynight, never seen a phone drain a battery so fast and you would think that these battery companies would put out a battery that would last like 2-3 days since they want everyone to get a Android phone....

Anyone else having battery issues or played around with the phone and figured out what is killing the batttery?

Thanks all!

ya it started recently with me

Yea I checked what was using my battery and it said the Swype Keyboard was using like 45% of the battery! Holy Keyboard Batman!!!! I love the Swype keyboard, is there not a update or a fix for this? It's insane!

use smart keyboard pro with no word prediction or correction. u can train it to ur style and the faster u type the less mistakes u make

Is there no other keyboard like the Swype one? I love that thing.... :)

LG has not updated the Swype keyboard to keep the battery from getting eaten?

I don't believe LG owns Swype, but keyboards in general demolish the battery, which leads me to believe that it's a problem with the phone itself, perhaps constantly keeping the keyboard running rather than just opening it on demand, or some other such thing. I could be wrong, but I haven't got any other plausible theories on that

Hey guys, I got my swype keyboard to lay of my battery some more. I moved the slider from accuracy to speed and turned off the clicking sound, it helped some!

I also found a kick a$$ app that almost doubled my battery life. The app is called "LG Connect Optimizer" it's free on the play store and my battery almost lasted all day today! Whoo hoo, I'm gona give it a good try later today and i will post back with my findings. Tall neef to get it and we can figure out the best settings!

Thanks all,
Al

The optimizer is made by another member, so please go to the thread HERE and Thank Kanaida for the development of the product.

Also, to anyone else, on my thread for ROM Releases there's a complete list of safe to remove apps, as well as backups. That thread is located HERE
The list of apps is down towards the bottom in the "Stripped" ROM Section in a "show" box.

Man, I must be going blind but I do not see a "Show" box anywhere in the thread for the "safe to remove aps"... :pound:
